Sidechain Compression

Post by Parkson Wrecks » Sun Dec 23, 2007 10:55 pm

Not sure if this topic has been beaten to death, but here goes:

Can anyone recommend a good sidechain compressor plug-in for me to run in Ableton? (I am assuming that Ableton 7 does not have a SCC, as I haven't looked into it too deeply yet)...

A FREE sidechain compressor of reasonably good quality would be best - I can only find for Windows... Mac plug-in anyone? :D

Thanks!

at least you were proven wrong in a positive way - the new compressor in Live 7 is really tasty.

I'll tell you what? Let's kick it up a notch and make the same inquiry re: multiband compression then...

Build one with racks and a freq band splitter based on EQ8 in HQ mode. Then side chain each band separately. Rad. You wanna mess some sounds up? Put a sidechained gate on each band. Aaaah... straight to flavor country.

interesting idea, good thinking that man !

(although I am not a fan of multiband compression in general, it can have it's uses)

I got this one from Abletonguru.com I use it a lot and even though it doesn't look like much, it's very effective. Check out the website for a video tutorial on how to use it, or it's on Youtube also. http://www.geocities.jp/webmaster_of_ss ... ChComp.zip

I don't know why the direct link didn't work, but try this one. It's on a page with some other good plug-ins. Half the page is in Chinese, but you should be able to figure it out. If this one doesn't work just go to Abletonguru.com and follow the link.

The OP is running Live 7, so external vsts aren't needed for this, thankfully.

i should try this as im looking for a good multiband. what concerns me about this is phase problems when recombining the bands.

im pretty sure eq8 isnt a linear phase eq, although i could be wrong.

anyone know?

theres 2 days left on the sonalksis christmas sale, so im very tempted by this pair :

http://sonalksis.com/index.php?section_id=3

but when i had the chance to try the waves c4 it seemed really good. simple and effective.

any others i should be checking out?
