Any Alternative or rock?

I've scoured the pages man, and just can't seem to find any rock.....alternative....... anything with a real guitar in it. I see lots of techno, electronica, trance etc. If anybody has anything, I'd love to hear it. I was trying to compare what I have gotten down in Live 6 to others that have been using it for a while

I make hybrid electronic / rock in my Umbriel Rising project (see myspace in my signature), using real guitars and playing real keyboards.

You can download the album for free at Jamendo, it was made entirely using Live 6 except for Cubase SX3 was used to record and mix 'Freaky Jupiter[ (with Live rewired on the remix version on the album) and I used Cubase to mix 'Mystery Prophet' because it had almost 40 tracks and was looking too congested on the Live Session view mixer (I recorded all the tracks in Live 6)

tracks 2,3,4,6,8,12 and 13 feature real guitar.

I also make more trad alternative/psychedelic/rock under the name LiQuid Metamorphosis. Make sure you stream from the CBC media player embedded for best results and not the mytrash player.

Every Track except for Shoot The Moon (Cubase) was produced in Live, the majority were produced in Live 7 Suite.

The rockiest tracks are Shoot The Moon *Cubase* and Save Me From Myself (recorded in L7 suite)

I'm primarily a guitarist and record entirely in Live. On a simple level, it's very useful for recording initial ideas for riffs and then trying out different permutations for arrangements.

I've also been experimenting with effects such as MBV / Battles style looping, sidechaining, and backwards guitar solos.

Anyway, it's more technical exercises than tunes at the moment, and I admit I need to improve my mixing skills, but here it goes..

Leedsquietman......the stuff from LiQuid Metamorphosis rocks dude. That was great. I had actually listened to your other stuff from browsing around but never heard that. Thanks alot. WHere did you get the bass sound...was it inside live. Nice guitars also especially in misplaced trust

Ahh sorry, I didnt mean to be nasty.

Just as a guitarist myself I thought i was being funny.

Theres been plenty of rockers through here. Sadly most give up posting as they dont seem to get the feedback they crave.

I call my stuff Alternative/Punk/Rock, it's almost all guitars and MIDI drums. I cruise this site looking for info on how to mix better, but it would be nice to start a more guitar oriented niche....

Cragstar and shaffer thanks alot. That was great. There really wasn't a question, I was just interested in hearing the same genre I am used to recording. Really like 14 73 and 78....they rocked. Do you ever finish them all the way out with arrangement and vocals? They were really good

The bass sounds mostly are from Live, a couple of them (including the slap (pish) bass sound on Misplaced Trust were from Reason rewired to Live. There are some reasonable bass sounds in the EIC and Tension, especially if manipulated with EQ/compression and some light modulation fx such as flange or chorus.

The guitar sounds should be better soon, I am getting a better audio interface with better pres, I was formerly micing up my Fender amp with an SM57 into an ageing Mackie VLZ1202 mixer and then out to my Echo Indigo IO soundcard. But since I wrecked the Echo soundcard a couple of days ago I ordered a better audio interface. Some of the guitar was also done direct (and using my Zoom guitar fx box) and then put through an amp simulator, but generally speaking, I get a better result micing up the amp.

Not really. I use parts of them as loops for live shows sometimes. They're just thorns in my side that I had to get out; so I could sleep - ya know how it is.

However, I posted those for some friends to finish; or see what they could come up-with.

My problem is that I feel guilty doing "pop" music. I mean, it only takes 15-20 minutes to finish a song like that. And then, it takes about 30-60 minutes to mix and master. So, I kinda think to myself, "what's the point?"; and get bummed-out about it and stop. But with the thorn out of my side, my mind stops going crazy (for a while at least). So, it's good. Anyhooo...

I actually find it a lot easier to put things together for my electronic music than my rock/alternative project. Vocals are a bitch to get right (my electronic music never uses any vocals or samples), and I find it harder to mix vocals to sit right with bass, drums, synths and guitars.

I also tend to scratch together loops in session mode for my electronic project, and cut and paste more, but I do more stuff in arrangement mode for my rock project with a more human feel (less repetition than looping a chorus, then a verse etc), quite often performing whole takes of certain instruments in one pass. Sometimes I punch in, but often I rerecord another whole take for a more natural feel.
