Firestudio Project whooo!!
Just got my first audio interface in the mail after using a standard computer gaming sound card for a while... I LOVE IT. Finally, I can record my basses and guitars and whatever else with zero problems... Just thought I'd rant about my excitement.
Congratulations!
I have one on layaway at GuitarCenter and will be picking it up as soon as I get off work! It's going to be a fuuuunnnnn weekend
Until now I've been recording one track at a time via my M-Audio Fastrack into Ableton Live. Does anyone know if I will be able to record all eight channels from the new Firestudio Project into Ableton Live 6 all at the same time or will I need to use the included Cubase software?

I think you can record all 8 simultaneously. I haven't recorded ANY audio from Ableton until i got this thing.
Just midi stuff. So I'm pumped to actually be able to record my band. I just had 3 guitars going into this thing a second ago to test it out, all at the same time, and i haven't installed any of the included software (Cubase, etc.) so I think you're in the clear.

It's possible and just as easy to configure in Live as in Cubase.
Just make sure in preferences AUDIO that you have the inputs enabled and make sure on your audio track that you have selected whichever input you are recording from in the IN section (usually reads Ext 1/2 if one stereo input is enabled, make your other tracks read 3/4. 5/6 etc in the IN part of your audio track) and make sure output is set to master for all of them.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question! I really did try to find the answer myself but there is just so much material to go through. I've been watching all kinds of video tutorials and reading through all the Tips and Tricks posted to these forums here but sometimes its just hard to find and you're forced to ask for help. I'll give it a try in just 3 more hours. GOD today is going slloooowwwww ;p

Question:
My Firestudio Project came with Cubase 4. Now, I'm still sort of new to the whole computer-music area of things, and Live 6 (now 7) has been my only software since I started.
I don't know much about Rewire. What would I benefit from Rewire w/ Live 7 and Cubase? I don't understand what that does, really. Live 7 covers my needs, why would I want to use another in conjunction? Is Cubase better at certain things? What what I benefit from using Cubase and Live in Rewire?
Sorry if it's a noob question...

Thanks for asking the question for me hehe. I was just about too.
I've been using Live only and was wondering the same thing. What benefit is there of using Cubase over Live if Live can do multi-track recording just as well? I'd rather not start learning a whole different program. Why is Live listed as sequencing/arrangement software in magazines and shit when Cubase is listed as Recording software? Is there any reason for me to even install Cubase?
As for Rewire, I have used that before once or twice, I belive it is so you can use/import tracks and audio from Live into another app like Cubase on the fly. But it seems to me like I could just as easily export tracks from live as .wav files and then import them into Cubase if I wanted to use them in Cubase. Sorry I'm not much help lol

rewire lets you send audio and midi information form one computer program to another..
i would suggest you stick to just one audio app until you know it inside and out... instead of trying to learn both. plus once you know one it will be much easier to learn the next.
stick with live and if you need cubase you'll realize it

The version of Cubase you have is a very cut down version called Cubase 4 LE.
Rewire has no advantage in one application over the other, I know because I have Live 6 (now 7 suite) and Cubase SX3. It is slightly less CPU intensive in Cubase but only by a smidgeon.
I only use Cubase these days for mixing down songs with 30 plus tracks because SX3 has 3 mixer windows but Cubase 4 LE doesn't, it also doesn't have PDC or freeze tracks, 2 advantages in Live.
I would say stick with Live. If you have spare time install Cubase 4LE and play around with it but I'm sure that you will come back to Live pretty quickly.
