Actually everyone speaking for Mac in this thread are rather balanced in their pros and cons. Now I guess this statement makes me a ".mac fanboy". :? 8O Go figure.

Nice one Tarekith.

Although is installing really so hard on PCs? Generally you just double click the installation file, ignore the license agreement and tell it what folder to go to. To uninstall, just go to add/remove program.

3 years on P4 PC, loaded full of all sorts of crap and I've never touched the OS or done any maintainence. Haven't seen any noticible slow down either. Probably time for a bit of a clear out though.

I like macs too. But my PC just works.

Now the issue I'd really like to know is what PC laptop to get? For instance, I've heard Toshiba's with core 2 duos can have audio glitches when the fan comes on. Would be good to see a thread where specific brands named and shamed for known issues.

To be fair, this is just a copy and paste from a post I did here last year shortly after making the switch. The topic comes up often enough that I just did a text clipping (another OSX benefit) of my reply real quick for posts like this.

I don't.

I switch it on, "it just works" and then I switch it off again when I'm finished.

I prefer the other analogy; OSX is like an OS with training wheels that you can't remove.

After test a lot over and over again....VISTA with SP1 its super stable, and fix lot of compatibility with software created for XP.

I sugest VISTA with SP1, now sp1 is available for install directly from windowsupdate, RC1 available, not final version yet, but awesome stable !!And please if plain use VISTA 32bits install 3gb ram not 1 or 2 or 4, just install 3
If you want use vista 64 can inatall 4gb ram, and check all devices on your computer have drivers for vista 64.

Anyway......OSX TIGER its really good, under leopard i have really high number of errors and problems, i think leopard need some depuration.

Anyway choose the OS where you fell more confortable, just that.

I think you misunderstood me. I'm not saying you normally need to do those types of things a lot, I never did when using XP either. I'm saying that if you DO need to troubleshoot things, it often requires diving deep into the file structure or registry. Removing apps oftens often leaves behind related files unknown to the user as well, thus the uninstall comment.

Oh, and if you were using OSX you wouldn't need to switch it off, you could just close the lid and let it sleep. For some reason I never had good luck with this on XP, many times my desktop icons would be reordered or connected hardware unresponsive once the PC woke up again. It wasn't until OSX I noticed how much easier and more reliable sleep mode is nd I stopped shutting down each night.

Though I'm sure you'll come back saying you don't have any issues with either as well, right?

my sleep mode works perfectly on win xp

if you're after a great pc laptop my advice would be an more exclusive Asus-laptop. I have an V1J, and there is a new one out, think it's called V1S, adds s-ata as standard and some other things. Another great thing is a spill-proff keyboard, nice security if someone spills liquid over it, hehe ..

compared it with a same speced macbook pro, and it was like 4-500 dollars cheaper, and the quality is the same, because as far as i know Asus builds some Apple-models, as well as Vaios, as one of the few OEM laptop brands.

if you want to run osx the choice is clear, but if you only plan to run windows, as i do because of a lot more freeware plugs like glitch, etc, choose an Asus ..

in other words, mac vs pc is not fair, because there is a lot of really shitty cheap pc systems. more exclusive lappys like the asus and some vaios is the way to go ..

none here, in fact, while we¨re "at it", on a xp this function is actually easily user-configurable, meaning I can set up my computer so that I can close the lid without going into sleep mode. I've seen many a mac user with his or her lid precariously balanced, or the macbook/powerbook stood on its side in a weird position, hehe.

Those who can afford will say MAC.

Those who can't will say PC.

That is all.

I can afford and I'm typing from a PC.

Those who want to rant and talk your ear off about a computer, get a mac, it's all those guys ever do anyway. mac people annoy the fuck out of me with their evangalism, it's just a computer!!

if you can't make music because you need a mac or pc, then you're too stupid to be using one in the first place.
mac people annoy the fuck out of me with their evangalism, it's just a computer!!
I see this statement made all the time but in general and by strict word count I find quite the opposite to be true. Many of these PC vs. Mac debates have the Mac people answering with simply "Mac" while the PC people are "what you need to get is this brand with this motherboard with this bus with this drive with this case but make sure to stay away from blah blah blah blah."

I find PC people way more defensive in justifying whatever. Same can be said when I got my iphone. Just by seeing it without me trying to show it off people would instantly bust out their phone and give me a laundry list of what their non-iphone can do to which I would respond "Um, ok" and then skip off all faggy.

It's the PC people that cause us Mac people to get all wordy with our responses because they think the defualt "it just works" is some kind of arogant trickery.

they're both affordable now - maybe 3 years ago that argument would have held weight - but they're both relatively the same cost
