Yes, this again. It should be in there, and should have been long before allowing mp3's to be used in clips and video IMHO. A lot of people had asked for this a loooooong time ago and they have yet to provide it. I shouldn't (and noone else really should either) have to load up my track into yet another application in order to render to an mp3, simple as that. This can be debated for ever but IMHO it should have been in there 3 versions ago at the least. But that's my opinion and I'll stick to it. I just don't like having to load up yet another app if I am DONE with my session/project in order to render to an mp3 file. It's stupid. For the amount of money we paid for the updates it should have been in there is all I am saying. To each his own, I prefer to stay within the same App as much as possible. So what if it's two-three minutes? You could have an epiphany and want to crank something out right then before you lose it.

- i believe that the Frauenhofer (are those the ones used? )codecs for encoding mp3s cost a fair amount of money if used in commercial applications, so what I heard is that the money was thought to be better spent on developing things to do things within Live that actually *couldnt* be done in external applications, like temporary decoding of mp3s (which could then be "released" when purging a temp folder.
I use the lovely free app CDex for encoding mp3s - it's really good, fast, supports drag and drop and now, since Live renders in non-realtime, I can usually "export an mp3", meaning export a full track, normally @ 50% cpu usage, drag it into CDex and receive a nice mp3 file, in less than the time it takes "maximouse" to stream the audio over Soundflower into audacity - iow in a shorter span of time than it takes for me to play the track through from end to end.

If someone does a request for it, I'm behind him, simple as that. And as far as I know the cost shouldn't be that much to get the license for it considering how many other *lesser costing* applications have it in them. But in the meantime I'll do what I need to do for rendering. No need to be a smartass on your response.

Still, no matter if it doesn't cost that much. Wouldn't you rather see something new and interesting which is not possible in just about any software for the same amount of money? I mean, come on, itunes takes less than a minute to encode mp3s and it has surprisingly good codecs. I'd say spend that money on something more useful, like coffee to make the ableton team going!

That depends on the function/functionality of what it is. It isn't that hard for them to already have it in here while they are working on the next new whizz-bang thing for the next version is all I am saying. I don't use a lot of what Live is capable of. I doubt I'll use the quicktime video piece unless I feel like doing some form of slideshow for a track like some other dark ambient artists have done in the recent past (not sure if it's quicktime or not, probably not). But it's something I feel strongly about being in a DAW. Yes it takes a little bit more to do it but if it was there I don't have to exit the app/close it down to the tray to do it after rendering. That's all. I like to work within Live as much as I possibly can. This is just an extra step, albeit a semi-short one, but an extra one that shouldn't be needed. That's my story and I'm sticking to it ;-)
