well, if they didn't state "performance improvements" in the list of fixes, i wouldn't expect any... errr.... performance improvement.

to OP: i think the Turion might be the cause for your bad performance. it's kind of a low end processor.
yeah i just don't see where that list of fixes are?

anyways, how much better would an interl core 2 duo be in compared to the amd turion.. the only difference i see in the processors is the amount of cache. intel has a lot more compared to the my AMD

ok, maybe i'm wrong, but i thought the Turion was the equivalent of the Centrino, and not as fast as an Athlon.
does yours have a double core? that makes A LOT of difference.

about the list of fixes, you can probably find it by searching the bugs and problems forum, but i'm pretty sure upgrading to 6.0.10 won't improve your performance, or very slightly.

no not quite sure what the turion is equivalent too.

i am almost positive it does not have dual core. i would love to test out a new processor.. though i would probably need a whole new notebook since replacing processors on laptops can be a pain

Sorry, I think this test is seriously flawed, because it only lists Live's CPU meter reading, which is useless compared to the real CPU load.

Here is an example:

I am currently comparing Windows Vista versus XP performance. Runnin Tarekith' Performance Test on the same hardware leads to the following results when run through my M-Audio Audiophile 2496 at 512 samples buffer.

Live CPU Meter: XP = 52%, Vista = 53%
Task-Manager CPU load: XP = 55%, Vista = 77%

As you can see Live's CPU meter is worth *peep*!

PS: At the moment it looks like the bad Vista performance of Live is either a bug of Live or a bug of the graphic subsystem. According to what I have found out so far the increased CPU use of Live under Vista is purely related to GUI drawing. The real performance hit of Vista vs XP is only about 2% on my system! I'm still investigating this at the moment.

Ok, I kind of found the circumstance under which Live's CPU load increases dramatically under Windows Vista and wrote a bug report about that here:

http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=81821

This only happens when using "Basic Desktop" (aka Classic Desktop). Here are my comparison measurements of Tarekith test on my computer.

Windows XP
Live's meter: 52%
Task-Manager: 55%, 51% when running in background

Windows Vista Basic Desktop (NO Aero)
Live's meter: 53%
Task-Manager: 77%, 52% when running in background after resolution change

Windows Vista Aero Desktop
Live's meter: 54%
Task-Manager: 57%

if i were to upgrade my amd turion mk-36 on my gateway laptop? am i ok to look at normal desktop amd processors? i'll make sure the speed is the same as my turion (2ghz) but i want an athlon which has dual core.. can anyone confirm is this is possible for me to do? (uprade)

Just had the chance to try it with 2GB of ram instead of 4GB (2x1gb sticks as my house mate was upgrading his Macbook)

It was still rock solid at 47% cpu. So no complaints here!!

Have been on about the bad performance of my MBP in another thread. I have just installed Tiger from Leopard as I am using a Line 6 POD XT Live and the drivers are only beta for leopard. If I use the POD XT as the output device I get loads of drops but using the onboard card I can play all 8 tracks fine at a good CPU level.

This suggests it's actually my setup with the Line 6 POD that's causing the drops, think I am going to have to look at my set up again..
