Noob needs help: Isolating and/or Deleting vocals.
I'm in desperate need of a way to isolate and/or delete vocals from tracks (Mp3 specifically) in Live 7.0.1 windows version. I've had great success mashing up and mixing beats and songs together, but i cant do exactly like i want to without removing the vocals from one or more tracks.
Any help?
Thanks, Ross.

You can't do it m8....you can isolate certain frequencies with EQing but it's not ideal,
I think there is some software on the market that does a pretty good job but like i said it can't be done perfectly..

i..see..
So what if i were to get a mixing deck w/ 2 CD turntables, and a midi controller synth / keyboard, would there be absolutely no way in hell that i'd be able to isolate the vocals / drum beat(s) or bass lines?

I saw a vid on you tube. Check it out. The guy used adobe audition I think, but any precise wave editor should work. He took an instrumental track of the same song and inverted the wave form which cancels out all but the vocals. It's quite amazing actually. If you wanted to remove the vocals, you do the same with a track that just has the vocals ( accapella ).
Good Luck.
Good Luck.

The only way I know is to find the accapella on vinyl or cd single. I heard someone isolated the vocal by matching the instrumental with the original and inverting one or the other. This only works if the songs are exactly the same lenght. That's why using a cd single that has the original and the instumental is best. As for what artist do to get their samples the get the original sound file from the rappers themselves

for acapellas. They also give you hints on how to extract acapellas ,but i believe that you need both the standard track and the instrumental to do this.
instrumentals are a tricky bunch. If you know of a program to extract instrumentals please let me know

If you have an instrumental of the track you can phase cancel it.
All you need to do load the two waveforms in two different tracks...pan one completely right and the other left and you get just the vocals. the instrumentals on the track have to be identical thou.
there are loads of plug-ins that do a decent job of eliminating vocals...you still need to do alot of EQing and whatnot to make it work thou. A good start would be filtering out all of the frequencies humans arent capable of making.

There's a much easier way.
Check the manual for the plugin "Utility", it tells you how.
or search the many threads on this site, like

some professional djs dont bother isolating the vocals at all. Fatboy slims ganster tripping for example you can tell by comparing the vocal sample to the original (Beatbox Wash[Rinse it Remix] - Dust Junkys) that hes taken it straight out. But this just takes very good musical knowledge and/or spending hours trawling through some back-alley record shop to find samples that you can do this with.
