Ableton: Please make an audio editor like Wavelab!

Hey Ableton,

Awesome job on LIVE. I love it.
But why not make an audio editor like Wavelab?

The Mac world is DYING for it.
I hate Peak. Its just horrible compared to Wavelab.
Steinberg doesn't make Wavelab for OSX.
Ahhh.. yes you know i use Macs now.

The feel of LIVE is what i really love. I could envison
you guys making an amazing audio editor.
It could be a contender!

Ableton, please do not waste your time doing this, the external editor integration is perfect now. Soundforge is perfect. How can there not be a good OSX wave editor out there?

+1 - there's no need for another audio editor at all. Even Wavosaur does a pretty good job for a freebie, though Soundforge is unbeatable.

Peak is an unusable, broken mess though.

or the need to jack the price for a feature like that.

So I don't start another thread on the matter, what exactly do I need an external audio editor for? I'm trying to compile a list of excuses as to why I am not rich off my music and think this might make the list if I understand the purpose.

agreed. I don't think I've ever launched an external editor from Live. I tweak the audio in Live or it's not right to begin with.

I wouldn't recommend Live for audio editing to replace Sound Forge or Wavelab or Audacity, I have SF and Audacity but I don't really use them with Live.

Yeah, I seriously don't know why I would need an external audio editor since I have never used one or felt that something is missing. Is this a case of some people having old workflow preferences and beliefs that makes them feel they need one of these things? There's nothing wrong with that and I am just curious.

I can't be dealing with Live for audio editing. Sure for in application sounds that i use in my sets, trimming loops etc but we don't all use all our audio in live.

And Peak is a bag of balls.

I like having an audio editor because I like assembling albums and EPs.

I like albums. A good mastering program allows you to put together a playlist and set the crossfades between songs, as well as allow you to edit the audio and apply a little more DSP. Timing the space between tracks and setting up crossfades is an essential and cohesive element to album production that won't die with the death of the CD format.

funny, you just effectively wrote that assembling/editing a CD's worth of music (album production) won't die with the CD. actually, there seems to a decent chance that the CD/album will die with the CD/album (yes, the album survived the transition from vinyl to CD, but it's not doing so well in the age of the iPod).

Things are changing and they will continue to with time and new listeners/consumers/fans/etc. That doesn't mean music dies- you can still
get Mozart's Requiem on a CD today just as you will be able to get Pink Floyd's Darkside of the Moon inserted into your brain in 50 years from now. Change will just expand the music medium!

Not trying to look a gift horse in the mouth, but -wow-... they really need to hire a graphic designer.
