imac g5 + m-audio fw 410 - edirol pcr m30+ live suite + reason + reaktor 5 + Analog factory + guitar rig and many guitars
So for $2,800 US, aside from the dual-quad cores I only get 2 GB RAM, one HD, 256MB graphics and one optical drive?
If money's no object I guess... My PC was half that price, and while only a quad-core I also have two HD's, a multi-card reader and a 19" flat panel monitor, as well as twice as many USB and FW ports.
Not trying to start anything (honest), but I still find Macs to be overpriced for what you get. But I suppose people love OSX, so that's a big incentive - even though OSX costs what, $150 a year for each new kitty update?
There are reasons I think about trying Macs again, but when I crunch the numbers I always talk myself out of it.

Hahaha ohh goodness.. just do it
this is how i look at mac vrs pc
you pic up any pc. hold in your hands(laptop) and gentley twist the actual computer, you can hear and feel all of the parts chrunch and move and creek around..
you do the same with a mac.. and its solid.. no loose spindly plastic crinkling..
what im trying to say is.. simply the very construction of a mac is far supirior to a pc.. they are build strong and solid..
same idea with the software.. they are strong and solid.. for the most part.. no flaky issues at all.
you pay the extra money for a damn good reason.. and once you spend the money you will know why.

i do have one funk with mac though....
they are the only ones to copywrite and make a profit from a Linux based os.. you can not update or better the kernels that it is using through Linux..
though on my mac book pro i can simultaneously run window and mac.. or Ubuntu and OSX (using leopard.. partitioning the hard drive and assigning 2g or ram to each OS)
though i dont suggest useing leopard quite yet

I bought one today!
I am excited. I am still copying files over from my old computer to my external HD but after that it's time to hook everything up and play with my new 8 core MacPro!

I thought Mac OS X was run on UNIX, not Linux....Andreas Adams wrote:i do have one funk with mac though....

Ouch! That's painful. Mine's arriving Feb 1 (which is also painful). Ordered the 3 GHz 8-way with the piglet option of 2 TB of disk storage - that should last me at least 6 months before it's full.sparklepuff wrote:I bought one, too. 5 goddamned weeks to wait, though.
BTW to the other poster, OS X was built from NeXT OS, which was basically BSD Unix v4 when Steve sold NeXT to Apple.
