Note messages to midi in

Post by norseman » Wed Jan 09, 2008 6:36 pm

I'm trying (desperately :-) to get the following setup working:

2 instances of Live. In the first I'm sending midi out through an External instrument with Midi to set to Edirol PCR Midi out. In the second I want to record the notes into a midi track with Midi from set to Edirol PCR Midi in.

In the receiving instance, I can see the midi track indicator (top right) blinking, but the midi notes does not reach the track.

My question is, should this be at all possible, and if yes, what could I be doing wrong?

Thanks!

I don't have a solution, but I'm guessing the problem might be that Live 1 is sending MIDI out on a specific MIDI channel, while Live 2 isn't expecting to record MIDI from a specific MIDI channel. I think most controllers only send MIDI out globally, rather than on a multi-channel basis.

Still, I know folks say they record from one sequencer to another.
Is there an Omni mode or something on the Live 1 channel that should be outputting your MIDI notes? Like, perhaps underneath where you select your MIDI card, is there another drop down menu that currently says "Channel 1"?
Sorry, never tried doing this myself...

Thanks, laird! Just wanted to inform that the problem has been solved by installing the Maple midi virtual cable. Regular midi in og outs doesn't seem to work.
