What's wrong with envelopes in arrangement view?

The manual says "In the Arrangement View, automation curves can be viewed and edited as breakpoint envelopes."

It should look pretty nice:



But when I actually record some clips by tweaking on a midi controller - I can't view these envelopes in arrangement view! Device chooser shows the Mixer and VST plugin, but not the MIDI Ctrl device, thus, I can't view the envelopes of MIDI controller! WHY NOT?
