1st beat of recording is partially cut off

I've been experiencing a minute amount of latency when I attempt to record clips or into the arrangement. Here's the scenario in which it occurs: I have my kick drum and bass routed to one track, which is armed and monitoring is set to "IN". THe midi clips for the kick and bass are ready to play, so I hit record in the track which I want to record the kick and bass together. The problem is that the resulting audio clip fails to capture the attack of the first beat of the kick drum. Everything else plays in sync with the midi notes, except the very first portion of the kick drum.
In sum, the audio clip I recorded is in sync with the midi with the exception of the very first portion of the very first beat.
I managed to find a work around using the arrangement view: If I begin recording 1 bar before the midi, there is no latency in the audio clip. But if I attempt to record at the beginning of the midi sequences, I get that small bit of latency again, which ruins the first kick. It's as if the audio from my kickdrum arrives a few miliiseconds before the recording actually begins.
Is this inevitable?
