automating impulse file preset changes in the arrangement ?

trying to change files within impulse sample slots, within the arrangement.
anyone have any clue how you could do this ?

i know that you have arrangement envelopes for all the parameters in impulse..
i also know you can change sounds and all parameters in real-time.
but i'm wondering if you can pre-determine file changes for slots in the arrangement.
??

you can't automate sample-change.

yup thought so. was hoping it was some v.7 awesomeness.
oh well just needed to hear it to get my mind off it..

i will just cont to use more than one impulse.. eat up some more cpu cycles.

I'm always struggling with cpu overhead myself so I now have my impulse's on/off buttons mapped to some keys on my keyboard. That way you can turn on only the ones that you need. Works great with other cpu intensive stuff to.

if you are using multiple impulses, there shouldn't be too much more of a cpu hit unless you are playing both impulses simultaneously.
ableton seems pretty good about managing the CPU with the built-in devices.

i've seen some interesting "voice-switching" impulse racks. puremagnetik used some voice-switching tricks in one of their drum-packs.
switching samples just by turning a macro-knob, that sort of thing.
of course that technique is not nearly as elegant as impulse on its own.

also, if you are willing to sacrifice the impulse drum-stretch effect, the live7 drum-racks may be just what you need.
just load up as many drum sounds as you plan to use and control your drum "switching" by using different notes in the midi sequence.

throwing 8 impulses in a rack and switching them around is great fun

and my saggy old G4 can hang with it,.
