Both of these are claimed to be great but for me greatness also includes being able to do something with them without needing a degree in sound synthesis.

Zebra is totally modular. Want an oscillator - add one! Want an effect, insert it. ETC. The sounds are really nice indeed...my issue with it is that it has a very signature sound - just like Albino or Absynth - I can usually tell when a Zebra is being used, but then again, it can be due to the fact that the presets are well known. There is some decent documentation from U-He, and that's how I got to know it, although I won't say that I've scratched below the surface by any means.

I would get it if not for the fact that I already own several really great synths that I'm busy getting my head wrapped around

My guess is this ends up with in the odd price point; I'm thinking around $899.

I can't wait to hear more in the next coming weeks. I wouldn't be surprised one bit of this makes it to the stores before the Blofeld does.

If you have any specific questions, check the official U-He forum, Urs even answers a lot of stuff personally.

At some point he wants to get some Z2 video tutorials up also.

one:

the TI is usb 1.1. is that a problem? not at all. it works fine for the number of ins and outs you are using. if you looking to record 20 ins at once then yes you need firewire etc. in this case its fine.

two:

the TI synths are a family of synths. based on the statement above and that as a developer why would you create a new lower spec synth that needs its own driver development costs [that would be passed on in the unit price]. as a family they all will run off the same OS. changing the config only makes developing bug free OS upgrades more difficult. which you get for free and usually expand the synths capability.

three:

I was comparing the two as well... the virs has audio ins and midi out unlike the blofeld, expacially audio in looks fancy.. would be nice to A/B the two machines

I am a little worried that in about 10 minutes, everybody and their brother is going to have an Access Virus.

We will have hundreds of thousands of Virus Tracks...

Just found a video on youtube about the Blofeld

Interesting pads it can make. Very! but wondering how good it is at lead sounds.
