FCB 1010 Advice

Post by toastjam » Tue Jun 15, 2004 7:47 pm

I've gotten more and more familiar running Live 3.0. Getting ready to come out of the closet and use it with some other musicians in a live setting. Just purchased the FCB1010 midi controller so I can play bass at the same time.....I expect the FCB1010 by Friday...any advice out there to ease the up front learning curve and get me playing with it as soon as possible? Any guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks -

Got it. Thx for the pointer. Maybe we should have a FAQ with the "5-star" responses. Searching is good, but with all the posting history on this forum, it would take a week to read all the FCB 1010 posts, as one example.

Thanks again.

If you're on OS X check out Control Aid, it was made to assist in using the 1010 with Live!

also doing that

i am also a bassplayer using Live and the FCB1010. i played a bunch of shows with my friends band this summer and had a blast.

we had a series of tracks and slots per song that i would disable when that song wasnt being played.

i am also using an Electrix Repeater in my setup which has the midi thru going directly to my computer so that complicates some things.

i have downloaded both controlaid and another midi router but have yet to get around to setting them up.

exciting to know that people are doing similar things.

I currently use a bass early in the song-writing process, my fcb1010 is setup like this:
The first bank of presets is set up to transmit midi notes 50 through 59 on channel 1.
Bank two 60-69 etc. I haven't gotten around to doing anything cool with the exp. pedals yet, any ideas anyone?

I have a template file with four empty audiotracks.
The two right-most buttons on the 1010, 5 and 10, step up and down through the scenes.
The upper four buttons left over, 6-9, arm the tracks, the lower row, 1-4, activate track launch for the four tracks.
The outputs of those four tracks are routed to track 5, which I use to resample and compress.

This way I can (almost) instantly access all clip slots on the four channels, play AND record, using only one bank.

BTW, this is also the setup I use live, I'm live-looping a vocalist, way cool :)

the expression pedals are very handy for plugin parameter control also--
tempo control for some crazy tempo shifting nonsense!
