Using Pre-recorded loops with Live Loops HELP!!

Post by Redhand » Tue Jan 15, 2008 9:47 pm

I am a quasi noob to Ableton. I have used it before in the studio, but not for live performance. I am using the FCB 1010 and Bomes with it and can rock out pretty good with live loops. However, I end up running into trouble when I want to use pre-recorded loops with my set. My question is this...Is there a way to play/input an audio loop and have it copy into the next scene, where the next scene already has pre-recorded loops in it? I have posted a diagram to help explain if it's not clear. (please forgive if the jpeg does not work right. My first time posting :)

Yes, you would just need to set up Bomes to go through the key strokes you require to copy and paste the loop down into each scene every time you press the pedal to switch down to the next scene.

with having the vocal continue to play back while changing scenes, just remove the stop button in the cells below the clip that the vocal lives in. that way, when you fire a different scene, the vocal will not stop playing.

right or ctrl click (mac) on the cells in question and choose 'remove stop button'

Thanks for the help guys, both are good ideas. I will look into them further. My first thought about creating a copy/paste function in Bomes is that I wouldn't want to copy/paste every time I change scenes so I would have to make a pedal specific for that function as well as a pedal for switching scenes.
As for deleting the stop button, I think that would work too, just that I would need to create "mute scenes" or some sort of mute button so that I could stop the loop at some point during the song. However, I did not know that you could do that and it's a great help to know!! Thanks a bunch:)

Any more ideas are obviously welcome....

I did think about syncing my two systems together and running my pre-recorded (or pre-programed) loops on one cpu while having live loops on the other, but I would be risking possible dropouts on the P4 2GHz. Looks like I have some work to do in the lab....
