Audio editing Sucks

Post by theguru_ » Thu Jan 17, 2008 1:03 am

Thats right. Any ideas how to manage to edit smartly? I am coming from Pro tools backround.

Live has no audio editor built in - you pick an external app, assign it in the prefs, and use it. If you are on a Mac I would suggest Sound Studio 3 or Amadeus Pro.

You can do some audio editing in Live on the waveforms in clip envelope etc, or arrangement mode but it is not the best option for comping takes together.

I tend to use Cubase SX3 or Soundforge as my audio editors (usually the latter but for lanes/comping SX3 is great).

With live you are on a total other planet.

Myself I cannot compare Live to protools but both can accomplish similar editing task over audio files.

Learn it a bit more maybe and you will be able to manage the differences between both.

Live doesn't allow crossfades for overlapping/adjacent regions on the Arrange Page. Good luck getting zero crossings on every edit(!)

IMHO, this is the most fundamental DAW "standard feature" missing from Live.

oh my god I have not even noticed or thought of that! I guess the only way is the volume automation.

But it does at least apply a small fade in/out so there aren't clicks on cuts. Still....+100000 on allowing crossfades in arrange!!!

i can see cross fades being the equivalent of the time signature bitch.

i dont know if im like most people on here but, i dont even notice these lacking features nor care about them till some one tells me they are missing.
after i hear they are missing i google the missing feature and realise i dont need it to make music or create a quality demonstration of my music.

it seems like most people on here think they are producers instead of musicians or song writers and have forgotten what a demo is.
