Hi, what do you think is the best and most versatile DJ controller for use with Live?

The X-Session Pro works for me.the spirograph crew wrote:Hi, what do you think is the best and most versatile DJ controller for use with Live?

It's not well-liked in this forum, but it's 99 bux or less and has a crossfader and "standard" DJ mixer layout, if you need that.

Cheap you say?
DM2 (<£20 on ebay)
PDooms DM2Midi software (FREE)
& a bunch of dummy clips.
I'm telling you - study up on dummy clips, grab yourself a DM2 - and you're laughing!!!
DM2
===
2xEndless Rotaries
1xCrossfader
2xTransformer buttons
8xLeft buttons
8xRight buttons
1xJoystick/XY controller (3 banks)
All of the above x4banks.
PDooms software is awesome... I wish he would make a generic version for use with any midi controller.

I don't anymore - my liveset was geting REALLY cluttered, so I stripped out all the extra dummy tracks and started to use my UC-33e more.
Dummy clips are super powerful, though. If you can get your head around 'em, there's nothing you can't do. Pair 'em up with the IAC/Midi loopback Juggle Trick, and you are bad mother fuckin' DJ.
Look! No hands!!!
(Dummy clips can be used to control anything that is automatable in Live. So if you have a limited controller (or no controller) they are a godsend. Use 'em for automatic crossfades, filter sweeps, beatrepeat fills, flanging, phasing - pretty much anything that you can program Live to do can be done with a dummy clip...)

Don't bank on it. Those jog wheels are just big rotary encoders. You can't use them to scratch in Live.defmut wrote:Control 4 channels w/ jog wheels to scratch
The only way is with the "Sxratch" VST. You won't like the results if you scratch vinyl.
