Always nice to hear of an amateur, or someone who dabbles, wishing to actually upgrade to making music. Unfortunate that they've finally settled on a genre that was essentially dead by 1994 - the original talents, ironically enough not christ posing DJ's, long gone to be replaced by cookie cutter construction kits, a Virus supersaw arp, Ministry Of Wank cash cow compilations and, lest we forget, the annual chav pilgrimage to Ibiza. It’s a far cry from the days of vinyl. “I’m so busy when I play now,” says van Dyk. “The other day I was wondering, what did I actually do once the record was playing? Wait for eight minutes to mix in the next one? How boring.” -PVD

Still think i should take a trip to ibiza
but they don't play that much trance there i've heard. At least they also play house and stuff. I suppose you can get a bit of nearly each genre in the electronic world, maybe even outside the electronic world.
i'll give them a listen when i get home from these laptop speakers, djA
forgot the headphones today..

The promo that this provides and artist is enormous so people are more that happy to get profiled.
Remember a success story style editorial is very different than an endoresment where an artist is used as part of an advertising campaign.
I'm hearing that Apple don't sponsor at all...
no $$$ involved....
how old r u???...
I have been running an entertainment marketing agency for over 10 years doing deals between technology companies and the music/entertainment industry.
So I have a very clear knowledge of what I'm talking about. This includes setting up marketing/promotional deals between artists and the folks at Cupertino.
If you enjoy talking out of your ass...great, but don't blow your gas my way!
I object to this kind of language and tone.siddhu wrote:Listen up bitch,3dot... wrote:ehm...mohler wrote: It's not often that you get offered being featured on the Logic Pro sections and then being part of the email from Apple too. I'm with you siddhu, I doubt there's payment involved.

It is simply not necessary.

True...but then we could start talking about *any* genre name for that matter. Drum and Bass is far from the only genre with drums and bass in it. =PLazos wrote:I appreciate lots of genres, but my only critisism of "Trance" music is calling it "Trance." As if no other type of music or sound has the ability to educe altered states of consciousness . . .
The name trance came from originally that trance music was designed specifically for the trance inducing pattern of rhythms. It was modeled after the tribal rhythm of the shamanistic rituals that put shamans into a trance to journey to the other side. Not that it's the only genre that had that intent...but it was really designed with that in mind. Note that I'm talking about the FIRST forays into that genre. It has since become a different thing entirely. I play/produce psytrance primarily, and even that is getting away from the roots of the trance inducing rhythms. A 16th note at 147 bpm is analogous with the cycles of brainwaves at alpha state. Trance music (goa/psy/OLD trance) is structured around a 16th note bassline typically, and between 135-148bpm...which all fall into that same brainwave pattern.
And while I may not care much for his production work, PVD is an amazing DJ with *seamless* mixes (he's always been that way) and really great programming. His sets have a really nice flow to them from beginning to end. He never released a "DJ" set as an album, as most DJ's did, until he actually contributed something to the work. His first mix-set release was Politics of Dancing in which he remixed the entire album and he said in an interview that he felt like he would be cheating by releasing something that didn't have a bit of himself in it. I don't like the style of his music really...but I have MAD respect for the man.
Hi, i've been into that trance business in the whole 90's and sometimes i still listen what those stars like Tiesto or PvD do today. And to my ears that whole genre hasn't come forward a single meter. It's the same shit over and over again. Some boring sawtooth licks meet syncoped bass lines for nearly 20 years now. Put all that into a church reverb room and that's it. It's just...boring. PvD is writing the same track for 10 years now, he's using the same kick, the same pads, the only thing he added is he stole the concept of having a famous vocalist on his dance tracks.
So...i forget trance...to me it's just...tarnce...

aaaaaa
sunburst, Lange, Picotto
yeah well, i know, they are all featured in kevin&perry go large but i was amazed to find such lovely music in the film
heck well. about pvd you might be right, but not nessecerily of the others. What is trance? I mean there are many genres. Then there is some forms of house like allmost groovy trance which is also enjoyable..
oh well, what moves. Has the rock scene moved? Its not just guitar, bass and drums anymore?
The rnb scene/hiphop has moved, but to an ugly point. I did actually enjoy a 'hiphop' track the other day (outcast - roses).
The track just overwhelmed me because it didn't have this over-compressed and over-produced timbaland sound in it like all the shit on the radio has wether or not he had his fingers in it. It all sounds the same, but THIS TRACK sounded so open :p
Besides i dislike scenes where its just "faces". Rihannah for instance don't even write the lyrics, and def. not any composing / production. She's just a face, but she gets her name on it. Why? Money? you call those people artists? fuck no

Yeah, you might be right, other genres didn't move too, but they don't have the claim to move on. In the beginning those techno/trance/house people where so excited about making music for the future, today that's totally gone...it's just about looking back. I listened a lot to those people like Villalobos, Hawtin and all the other minimal guys. To me thats sound wallpaper makers, it's so poor...things that happend 15 years ago...cooked again...
. So...forget minimal and tarnce...
Hehe
well, i got hands on an old "mixtape" (8 or 10 years old) containing hard-house trance, done by a friend of mine. The songs on there still holds! And the other tape with more funky house is simply brilliant. The stuff on there got so much swing, rythm and funky melodies its brilliant!
If you listen to timbaland in 8 years i bet its just as out as britney's "oops i did it again" haha
But this stuff is timeless man
edit: btw could you help me place a track like this in a genre?
http://youtube.com/watch?v=RoZY9NR8MtE
Quite a relaxing track i know, not something you'd pull out in a club hehe
And def not a favorite, just wanted to check the style name

All his stuff sounds quite the same. Over compressed, overproduced vocals and that stuff.
AND the fact he steals from the demoscene doesn't make him better in my eyes. Sorry.
IF he would admit it and credit the original author, then i would have tons more respect. But stealing something so obvious and denying it is a big fat joke.
for a thread of viewpoints on his productions:

for a vid with a little info on the thiefery:

the reason why i belive the vid? There are so many notes and they fit perfectly when mixed together. Its not just a coincidence.
And that gangster attitude of his doesn't fit in such a situation.
Let this be a lesson. Don't steal from scandinavian people :p
