for those who are into jazz (those who aren't can participate), what are the records that you would never live without?

for me (the list may get longer):

miles davis: ESP, in a silent way, water babies
bill evans: complete village vanguard sessions
ahmad jamal: Live in Montreal, at the pershing
weather report: 8:30
charles mingus: ah hum, oh yeah
joe henderson: so near so far

well, i'll stop it here for now...

i also love 'paris blues' by gil evans and steve lacy, very cool record.

and, well, a lot of gil evans' stuff actually ('out of the blue' is really good)

Anyone using live 4 to play jazz? I think the improvisational nature of live would really lend itself to this music. I've been using live apply realtime effects to my sax for a while now and think it might be cool to start using live in a group improv situation. Anyone in the London area doing this sort of thing already?

For example, the Blue series albums on thirsty ear (SPRING HEEL JACK, DJ SPOOKY, EL-P) have already paved the way for electronics in modern jazz.

funny, i just listened to it yesterday... not such a well known record...
i wonder how she can sing on the voicings he plays...

I can't understand that too, there's a mystery for me in that record, almost a "religious" feeling", so high....
Gil Evans yeah.... "Gil Evans plays the music of Jimi Hendrix" is my favourite one....

This is an interesting idea I've thought about a lot in the past. Using those techniques in addition to jazzy breaks etc...
Matthew Herbert comes to mind when talking about live manipulation of live sampled material.!!!
