Virsyn Cube 2 compared to Cameleon 5000 (or morphine)?
Virsyn Cube 2 compared to Cameleon 5000 (or morphine)?
Ya I know, who wants another x vs. y thread right?
Well I'm starting to get interested in the whole sample-based additive resynthesis thing, seems like it can produce very unique sounds unlike other synthesis forms. So I'm seriously considering getting one of these. I've got an offer for cameleon 5000 for 95 dollars right now, which I was going to go for, but then Cube 2 caught my attention.
I'm looking into both, and they seem fairly similar at first. Can anyone comment on what some advantages would be to either of these over the other? Also, does tera 3 do this kind of thing at all?
Cheers folks

Wow, ok. That's a very strong statement. Would you mind telling me what you like better? Is it easily tweakable etc.?j2j wrote:There is no comparison.
Cube wins. Plane and simple.
I've also just noticed morphine, which also looks quite similar to the other two. Anyone got any info on that one?
And do any of these synths (cameleon, cube or morphine) allow other types synthesis as well, such as fm?
thanks y'all.
i can vouch for tera 3.
not only is the synthesis fucking amazing, but the inbuilt sequencer is phenomenal.
i've heard excellent reports of cube's capabilities also, although i've never used it myself. as far as i know it can't do fm. if you want that go for tera.
i can't comment on those other synths as i've never used them.

I use Tera and Cube.
Virsyn is excellent and the support works well. The latest Verbplug is using one of mine USB-Dongle. Like everyone else, i am not a fan of Dongles, they make the life of honest users only more complicated, but i have to say, that i didn't had any problems with the license since now. I use one of my plug where also cubase is stored.
I tried camel, as well as morphine, both are also nice, but i prefer the sound of cube, as well as the morphing features of cube. Morphine is a bit to soft for my ears.
At least it is hard to make a honest comparsion for me, because i work with Virsyn - Tools since a long time, so i am used to them.
There are Demos for all of them, why don't you try them out and follow your own impression....

Ya, I was demoing them last night. And I would agree with a previous post that Cube 2 sounds the best. However, I have no idea what most of the controls do.
In general, I understand how this type of synthesis works, but I don't understand the layout and parameters of these synths well enough to be able to draw a very good conclusion about sound designing with them.
Camaeleon 5000 and morphine were a bit easier to find some standard parameters for modulation etc. Cube was a bit harder, but there were wacked out sounds coming from the thing.
I still don't know if I'll go for the offer on cameleon. I'll have to keep testing. More opinions welcome.
