you need a mixer that sends midi.

if your mixer has a midi out (or maybe a USB port) then it can send Midi. otherwise youre fresh outta luck. Jeebus himself couldnt jury rig that.

i have a midi out & a midi in on my sound card.... along with 2 mic/inst 1/4 jacksalong with some trc 1/4 jack inputs & outputs along with some rca plugs... & also the sound card is usb... my mixer has alot of hook ups on it but no midi or usb... i use monster cable rca-1/4 jacks from the back of my mixer to the sound card to record into ableton... theres no way i can somehow do some crazy loop or something? theres gotta be some kinda way to go through the sound card before it goes to ableton right?

Why not record into live directly, with NO volume/eq/effects, then apply all that shit later?

Just pan each of your decks all the way left or right ( left deck = pan left/right deck = pan right) then get a couple of Y-splitter cables. Record each deck into a separate track in Ableton Live (from your mixers master out ("L" white = Left Deck, "R" Red = Right Deck), then edit the volume envelopes once the whole set is recorded in Arrange View...

OR - you could just do what the rest of us do, and record all your tunes into Live, warp 'em, and get a little stoopid. You could have 2 tracks playing in live, and have 'em routed to the line in on your dj mixer. So, effectively, you're using Live as 2 turntables. Heres the kicker - your warped tracks in live will always be perfectly beatmatched...

Also - you can flip one of the line switches to Phono, and play vinyl/scratch over the tracks being played from Live.

Live PISSES on turntables for mixing/editing/remixing/mashing - but you CAN'T beat scratching vinyl over your Live mix. That shit is fun!

Head over to AbletonLiveDJ - the guys there will sort you out.
