Guest,
I tried the Live demo on a Vaio GRX 316G in the shop, and it was smoking.... lots of tracks, lots of plugz, superb screen (see all tracks without scrolling
), tried Logic on it as well and it seemed reasonably powerful.
Hope this helps - I don't know about FX notebooks, but Athlons are suspicious.

SONY PCG-NVR23 is da bomb!
AMD XP1800, 256mb ram, 32MB GeForce4 420, dvd-rom/cd-rw, usb x3, ilink firewire, network/56k... all for $1499. Check my recent benchmarks a few post back.
AMD FPU outperforms anything out there and audio apps/plugs are FPU hungry. This laptop is the best bang for the buck right now. It's also pretty awesome for games.

how are you guys handling the weight of these laptops, I mean I understand that they are very powerful and working out well for you, but again, what about the weight.
do you guys have desktop studios also, and if so what is the need for comparable power when you are away from the studio. I'm having trouble
deciding between something very light like 2-3 pounds, or one of those like you guys have but those sonys and toshibas are like 7-9 pounds, anyway how are you guys dealing with this. If i didn't have a desktop already I wouldn't hesitate to get one, but I used to have a 5 pound Dell laptop along time ago and that thing was murder on my shoulders, add a controller and soundcard to that and you guys see my perdicament.

Do you have eny pictures of your setup?bioroid wrote:Stubby,
I guess the batterylife could be 1-2 hours but I don't care cuz I always run with the AC adapter. I would not think about even performing live on a battery. For my live gigs I use 3 usb ports. 1 for keyboard/mouse, one for Emagic EMI 2|6 and one for Evolution UC-16 knob box.

How stable is this Laptop?
How many tracks, efx can you run on it sucsessfully?
How stable in the EMI 2/6 sound (prelisten ports?) in a live gig situations?
How's the Evolution UC-16 controller in action?
sorry for too many questions
