Input latency with mt4/828

I must be missing something quite obvious as I can't find any posts on this... anyway this is the problem:

After adjusting the input/output latency values in the prefs re. the maual, passing audio out of the mac into an 828 and back for record is fine, the audio matches up fine. But then placing midi notes on the bar to trigger an external synth coming back in gives me 32ms delay? Adjusting the 'overall latency values' doesn't make it come any sooner (or later).

Should'nt the adjust input/output latency value calculations do the same job with an external synth? I'm very confused.

The system is this: 1gz Mac running Panther, Emagic MT4 and Motu828 + midi synths.

What synth are you using?

There is going to be a delay (call it latency, if you will) due to the synth itself.
When a synth receives a MIDI note, it will take a certain amount of time for it to respond and generate the audio.
32 mS sounds like a very long delay for a synth, though - I'd expect it to be more like 10-20 mS, it could be more or less depending on what the synth is doing, how many voices it's generating, etc.
Also, it takes about 1 mSec for the note to travel down the MIDI cable.
And finally, I have no idea what the MIDI latency for Live plus OS - I'd expect it to be very small.

i have the same problem.

the problem does not exist by just triggering the mikrokorg as synth via midi. but when i record the line played by the synth via midi from live i do have a rather long dely / latency.....

i think it´s a live 4 issue....
