also, Saul Williams is a boring pompous pretentious pseud whose dreary drivel is lapped up by precisely the type of friendless anal sycophants who infest this forum with their pitiful pleas for point release updates

b0unce, you're a smart guy and you're on your way to getting it, but you're still conflating art and business. There is no absolute way to define what's a "good" record.

If you're intending to make a living as an artist or musician, you need to think clearly about the business and financial aspects of your work. The world is not going to spontaneously recognize the genius in his bedroom who has never publicly released a thing, no matter how brilliiant it may be.

Success is about 80-90% (maybe nearer 100% sometimes) promotion, marketing, sex appeal, and luck. Talent and skill usually need to be there, but a promoter is going to make 100 times more money on a Kylie Minogue than a Frank Zappa.

dinsync wrote:The worst is that Reznor wants to take money directly from every internet users pocket by taxing ISP's:

"I think if there was an ISP tax of some sort, we can say to the consumer, 'All music is now available and able to be downloaded and put in your car and put in your iPod and put up your a-- if you want and it's $5 on your cable bill.'"

Remember all tax = force - you pay the tax or the government will throw your ass in jail. Resist jail and eventually you'll end up dead.

Reznor is all ready to use the force of government to get his way.
He was actually quoted in another article saying this was false and he was mis-quoted. I agree he does seem a bit whiny, but I still think he's one of the baddest motherfuckers of all time, the dude just doesn't quit, just look at his new remix site... it's bad ass and apparently he had to go through a whole bunch of shit to get it up and running, including it being mostly out of pocket. Oh yeah and who else do you know of reznors stature that routinely makes his multi-tracks available for remixing... can't think of many

the first 3 NIN albums are great. (phm, broken, downward spiral). he should have stopped then, it all started sounding like a parody of himself.

did you ever listen to pigface? the first album is brilliant
