how to avoid latency and get precise pressed midi trigger?

Post by ufirecords » Sun Jan 27, 2008 12:18 am

i'm using an FCB1010 pedal to trigger samples set up in Live (5) along a timeline -- i've mapped location points to the pedal switches.

there's an annoying delay sometimes when i hit the foot pedal and so it's hard to get precise presses -- sometimes they delay a bit. i notice this also when i hit key commands too sometimes so i've messed with the buffer size that seems to help a little....

any ideas?

thanks in advance !

keep messing with ur buffer size... abd there is a good lesson in the manual about this driver latency compensation

Latency

Bling's right; the manual explains how to set your latency; you want it as low as possible. Go to Options > Preferences > Audio and make sure you're using the ASIO driver for your audio card (Driver Type: ASIO). You can get an ASIO wrapper at ASIO4ALL.com if your sound card doesn't come with any, but asio4all is a bit of a workaround and doesn't always allow you to get latency as low as a card with native ASIO drivers.

To reduce latency, set the buffer size smaller, click on the "Test tone" and listen for any crackles. If there's no ugly sounds, try lowering latency further. If there is stuttering, crackling, etc. then increase latency.

Also make sure your launch quantization is set properly; you can adjust it globally or for each individual clip. That could add a HUGE delay to the launching of clips :-)

thank you for this.

also, remember if you are using a multi processor computer, you can turn on the hyperthreading option in Preferences.

cheers,

hit Ctrl-0 to set it to none, that is probably your problem
