More pops+crackles: Rewire/multiple windows and Live 7

Post by sporkles » Thu Jan 24, 2008 5:24 pm

Does anyone get the same über crackles as I'm getting, when changing focus
from Live to another application? I'm running Reason rewired, and when my
project is playing, I get a rather insane crackling when I alt+tab to Reason. It
works fine as long as Live is in focus. Reason is not the problem here, as this
happens no matter what window I'm flipping to. I haven't confirmed this on my
desktop, but on my laptop (HP 2 gHz, 2 GB RAM, Vista home Premium), this
problem persists. Live 7.01.

Turn energy-managment to "Desktop" or "Always On". Change CPU optimization of Windows from Programs to Background Tasks (or whatever it is called in english).

Cool - but where do I find these options? All I can seem to find is an option to
choose a "power plan" - "balanced", "power saver" or "high performance".

Where do I find the settings Timur mentioned?

These options are from Windows XP. I didn't notice you're using Vista, use "high performance" then. Also make sure to use Aero, the 3D glass GUI of Vista, because Live seems to have a bug that increases CPU load crazily when using the Basic Vista GUI.

also, post a message if the "high performance" changes/fixes your problem.

If you are using the Classic/Basic Desktop then you will likely still have CPU load issues, because Live's GUI will load the CPU for even the smallest things. This is a bug in Live that seems to happen at least with Nvidia graphic-cards.

OK - this is getting really weird. Changing to "high performance" didn't seem to
work. Switching to Aero *did* seem to work at first, but all of a sudden, after
leaving the computer for an hour or so, I got this message:

Weird stuff all over the place. The glitches seemed to stopped when I turned
on Aero, but then I got a message stating that Live doesn't support it...

Some VST seem to force Live into Basic. I only got this message once, so maybe there are some circumstances where this happens. Just don't leave your comp idle for that long. ;)

Seriously, I hope this gets sorted out rather soon.
