midi causing dropouts/wavering and possible solution

Post by kipling » Tue Jan 29, 2008 8:30 am

hello folks.

i thought that i'd put this bug out, even though i'm not sure of it, as i'm sure ableton won't be able to reproduce it, but maybe someone else might be having similar problems, as i am convinced it is a problem with live, and not something else.

i'm using live 7.0.2b5

the dropout occur when i have a midi track playing, along with the following ableton midi plugins: scale, notelength, velocity, and sampler vsti.

i am sending the audio output to an audio track for recording, and have a reverb on the audiotrack (ambience by magnus at smartelectronix).

with the latency set at 512 samples (as i had in live 6.0.10), i get wavering and dropouts (with no obvious cpu spikes). adjusting up to higher than 649 samples stops the wavering and dropouts so that it happens only occasionally.

i installed a third party software called peek a boo (www.clarkwood.com). with peek a boo running, i open the process list, and select live 7.0.2b5 and under the "manage" pulldown, i select "high priority." this makes that particular application the highest priority in cpu consumption. this seems to fix the dropouts alltogether.

i've noticed a lot of people with similar problems, so i thought it might make sense to mention how i fixed this. is there a pc application that prioritizes cpu consumption? there must be, if it exists on the mac.

let me know if any of this helps.

Do you get these drop outs when you replace the ambience plug with a certain Ableton effect?
However, could you send us that Live set (only the .als file) to [email protected] together with the name or link of this thread?
