Don't trust FedEx with your synths!
I ordered a Studiologic VMK-188 Plus in November. It was backordered so I waited...about three weeks. When it showed up, it was left in the rain on my back porch. Opened the box to notice that the whole left panel was completely fractured. Absurd, right? One irate call later, a replacement order is lodged. 10 days later the replacement shows up. Open the box and see that the power supply and sustain pedal are both floating around loose in the main box, their individual boxes crunched and smashed. Take the controller out and the whole RIGHT panel is cracked. Plus, two keys are punched in. Well THAT one was sent back and I told SamAsh to have the new one delivered to them and for us to inspect it together in the store. I went tonight to pick it up and guess what...right panel was cracked. The guy at SA was super apologetic and in total disbelief. So now we're waiting on the 4th controller to ship. I'm expecting it to be cracked, too, and just might lose it if I'm right.
So, all you people out there potentially buying controllers, synths and large gear be careful dealing with FedEx. I can only imagine what I would've done if something like that happend to a vintage piece of kit like an MS-20 or Buchla. Murder I suppose.

they aren't just sending back the same broken synth over and over?Sivle wrote:I ordered a Studiologic VMK-188 Plus in November. It was backordered so I waited...about three weeks. It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.
No. They break a new $650 controller each time. The first one had the whole side panel broken and separated from the unit. The second had a crack on the opposite side and had two dead keys. The third was cracked open in a different spot. I think they must just drop them out of the truck and stand them up, longways, and drop diseased pumpkins on the top until the asphalt below starts to buckle.
i have the same problem with ups. i shipped a bunch of dvds and software to myself when i moved across the country, not only did it take two weeks longer than it should have to get here, when the box got here it looked like they had used it for soccer practice - there was a giant hole, about 50% of the packing peanuts had fallen out and i'm not even sure if all of my stuff got here or not. it's unbelievable

Fed Ex is a sham. They have continually just thrown packages at the front door and left after a quick knock. Several times we come home and there is a package waiting for me from Fed Ex. Sat there for hours.
A fine example is when I came home a few weeks back and found my Live 7 box just sitting on the door step in snow and cold weather. Plus, we live in apartments, anyone could have taken it.
I try to always avoid Fed Ex.

Ive had people who were close to me work at ups, fedex and private contracters of the us post office, Ive heard all kinds of stories...if you think your shit doesnt get kicked through uprights, thrown through imaginary basketball hoops or just plain smashed down conveyer slides....your fooling yourself. You probably have some disgruntled musician at your local hub who knows something goods in the box he cant afford breaking your packages on purpose because hes jealous.

I had a replacement PCR-M1 shipped to my house via FedEx last month, and was lucky enough to answer the door to receive it. However, after the guy rang the doorbell and knocked on the door a few times, as I approached the door, I see through the frosted side window that the guy totally drops the package from under his arm to the floor with a thud. Total jerk off. This is probably the same reason why I had to call for a replacement keyboard in the first place! Regardless, I'm pretty sure you can tell any seller to check the "signature required upon deliver" box on the FedEx form to avoid those other incidents.
Signing for a broken item doesn't make it less broken. If my keyboard is gonna get tossed around like a box of dirty laundry before it ever gets on the truck then whats the point of sig upon delivery? I'm giving them one more chance and then I'm done. There's a store in town that finally has them in stock, albeit for about $70 more.
I once had 3 very expensive laptops just dropped outside our apartment door, on a stairway without a main lock. So any punk could have just taken them. I was THIS close to calling the danish postal service and going... "hey, where are my laptops", to see if I could get moreadverbialsensationalist wrote:Fed Ex is a sham. When I bought my Moog Voyager I wasn't in when they delivered. Instead of leaving a card they left it in full view on my drive in Nottingham (which isn't renowned for being crime free!). In fact, it wasn't even right by my door but in the middle of my drive about 5 metres away. I looked at the tracking website out of curiosity to see who had signed for it and they had even forged my signature.
Obviously I gave them hell on the phone.
A few months later I had to send the synth back for repairs and servicing. When Fedex delivered it back to my house again : guess what? Left on the drive once more.
A £1800 piece of gear just left in the open twice. I mean, it's a big box and pretty damn heavy, how anyone could have come to the conclusion "it's probably not worth too much, let's just leave it on the drive" I'll never understand.
So yeah, courier services = cunts.
(And I've had very similar experiences with DHL).
