Rendering as WAV sounds like crap

I have rendered many songs with my Ableton 6, but all of the sudden they now sounds VERY distorted.

It sounds like a lot of crackling and static. It there anything that would do this? I am rendering both MIDI and Audio tracks.

I unplugged external devices that would be interfering with sound to no avail. Anyone have any ideas?

Think I figured it out:

For some reason it would render without this static if I turned the master volume down.
I have never had a problem with this before, but turning down the master and rendering it worked

Hope this helps some other people
