Post by Tronamatic » Wed Jan 30, 2008 7:37 am

Well we are running a mac book pro and a mac book ad we were wondering how you go about syncing the 2.
we have an axiom 25 as a midi conroller but we are mainly looking to sync them for the bpms.
i also have an M audio midi sport and was wondering if that would work to sync it in any way??
any help would be great. thank you guys!!!

We use the MIDI network over airport. Took a bit of fiddling around with the settings, but now it works fine. You'll need to create a network from laptop to laptop and then use that in your Midi Setup Network settings. Then you can add that session to your Live options for Midi sync. One laptop can then set EXT to on and you're ready to go. Both Lives will start/stop at the same time and will be in sync.

Sorry for the rough description, but I'm not at my mac at the moment so don't have more details to give. There's a little info in the Live manual that will help you, but best bet is to search on this forum as lots of people have had the same question.

E.g. other users recommend not bothering with any complex connections, just making sure both laptops are on the same global tempo setting and then hitting start the same time as they should stay perfectly in sync...

There was a thread on this in the General forum a few days ago - have a look around...

Good luck :)

MIDI Sync

The axiom functions as a complete MIDI interface. If you are willing to have the laptops next to each other, plug the midisport into one laptop, and the axiom into the other. Connect the midisport's "out" to the axiom's "in" and the axiom's "out" to the midisport "in".

In Live, go to preferences and then MIDI/Sync. Enable "Sync" for the output of one laptop and enable "Sync" for the input of the other. This allows the BPM to remain perfectly in sync, even as you adjust the tempo.

In this configuration, one machine will be "in charge" of the tempo, but there ARE some ways around that.
