Vocoders/Pitch Correction for live performance?

Post by BeingG » Wed Jan 30, 2008 1:57 pm

Hey guys!

I'm using Live6 when I'm playing with my band, as we can easily set up our loops/synth parts to play when we're playing, it's great!

I was just wondering if anyone could help me with an idea I had...

Basically, I saw this band play a couple of weeks ago, who sounded a lot like "The Secret Handshake" but live... and they were using a hardware vocoder type thing, but had no controller keyboard... I think the vocoder must have just been set to do a REALLY harsh pitch correction on what it was hearing from the mic.

I thought wow, that would really work in a section of one of our songs... and I'm sure there must be a software alternative VST or something.

Now, I've managed to get the MDA vocoder working fairly well in Live... but does anyone know a way I can do some fairly harsh pitch correction to get that kind of robotic/cher voice without having to have a controller keyboard using live?

Any info would be great!
I've had a google about and not come up with much! :S

Thanks!

Basically any pitch correction plug (not the same thing as a vocoder) can do what you ask for. Unfortunately there is no such thing included in Live. The most popular 3rd party alternatives are probably melodyne and antares autotune. Both somewhat expensive, if you only want it for one section of one song.

have you been to www.kvraudio.com?

Use their search function.

I dont know what OS you are using.
But look at

if the $400-types are out of your price range.

I saw the Secret handshake live and he uses a hardware based autotune if I remember correctly. I'm going to have to echo the other posts and Say check out melodyne or autotune.

Also, do you have any samples (Audio or Video) of your band? I'm in one doing the same thing an would like to see some more examples.
