if you solo a drum chain mixer in the inline mixer,
it'll mute all other toplevel track mixers as well..

yes, but perhaps I'm being thick ...
<snip>
I'm not understanding where the problem lies, and that's why I haven't said anything on the issue previously - because to me it works more logically now!
:? so you actually see the logic in soloing parts of a drum track that'll solo the whole set?

must be a personal workflow preference then because it totally ruined mine..

As I see it:
all inline mixer features are regarded as local features, not global..

If I solo parts of a drumrack, I want to hear them within the context of the set..
If I solo parts of a drumrack, just to hear those parts only, I'll solo the track and the respective drum chains..

aha, I think I see what you mean now
you want the REST OF THE SONG to continue playing while you alter the tom EQ.

I was missing the point completely. I thought you were referring to solo affecting other items in the drumrack.
And now I get the point.

Which is : Is this an inline mixer, or is it a part of the main mixer?

Really the inline mixer is just the rack mixer, nothing more nothing less.
So I agree with you there. You should be able to solo a drum so that you can hear it with the other instruments.

an Option key seems the best approach. I wonder if it is viable.

i knew we got lost in translation somewhere

it's so damn hard to explain with all these different terms..

that's exactly what I meant..

it is an 'improvement' since beta 4..

and what's even worse is that if you do those same soloing actions via the drumrack pads or the chainmixer it behaves totally different..
There it will actually solo that chain only, and not mute all other 'main' mixers..

I think that would be good, but of course - that collision of Session and Arrangement is a very important one and has many many ramifications.

actually make that

Many ramifications ^n

and that's why my Arrangement clips are taking so long ;)
extreme hardness
well in all honesty the 'arrange clips' thing I could maybe imagine fro Live 11 or 12

but maybe as they have already started in the direction of this multi-lane automation then the 'next step' could be a way of easing into automation in session view

in fact maybe a paradigm shift

really, the thing we want from session is triggering clips on the fly

what if every clip in Live was the same thing and they have play buttons in arrange view as well so you can trigger from arrange and edit one-> both change (alias clips)

I dont like session and arrange being so separated at all

I want the CLIP to be god, and session and arrange worship it

(translated to non-stoned late might person speak): I think the clip should be the main priority and both session and arrange should just reference it

That's what I mean. Probably some people misunderstood me:
I agree that the features were cool and useful but, they were really Worth a New Version 7.0???

And about not having time... Is Ableton on a deadline?

Yeah. I wasn't talking about instruments since they're kind of "separate" things. I'm talking about the DAW itself, since it has a lot of potential to be a big one.

Yes, every company putting out a new product is on a deadline. Be it financial, marketing or internal reasons, there is always a deadline. ALWAYS!!! :D
