play album tracks in sequence

Post by hanzo » Wed Jan 30, 2008 10:29 pm

I am new to Live 5 and simply want to play tracks 1-10 of an album, in sequence, unwarped, without pauses, in Session View.

the album is: "The Fat Of the Land" by artist: "The Prodigy"

I am trying to use follow action's "play next clip" but, I am having a hard time determining how many bars-beats-sixteenths to set in the time control. This would be easy if I was warping but, I want to preserve the tempo of the original tracks.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Why do you feel it necessary to use Live doing this?

Actually, I don't feel it is "necessary" to use Live to play sequencial unwarped tracks in Session View using Follow Actions. I am doing this as a learning exercise.

It all began when I was innocently studying Live 5, reading about Session View, Follow Actions, and time control. To test my understanding, I thougt I would play all the tracks in "The Fat Of the Land" with just minor start and end point changes, leaving them in their original sequence and bpm.

It occurred to me that I could use this approach during parties when I just want to chill instead of actively dj. Not suprisingly, there are many great albums in the Electronic genre that are mixed beautifully and play well in their orignal sequence with differing track-to-track bmp.

No, I don't have a CD player and choose to stick with Live as my program of choice. Can you blame me when Live plays and sounds so great?!

If you are using follow-on actions you should set the number of bars in one of the panels. I don't have live in front of me but it should be defaulting to 1 bar, find the size/number for the clip in one of the panes and set follow-on to that size. Read the manual on it as it should show you what boxes I am talking about. If I had it in front of me I'd give you specific places to look. But you need to match the number of bars for the follow-on to go thru the entire song, i.e. you have a sample that's 4 bars long, the follow-on defaults to only 1, it's going to go to next clip after 1 bar vs 4 so you need to match the number of bars of the sample/song to the follow-on value in the box.

Hope that helps, sorry don't have live in front of me (at work).
