unlocking essential instruments collection 2

Post by divisional » Tue Feb 05, 2008 8:53 am

Hi all... Just got the boxed version of Live 7, which of course included the essential instruments collection 2, and cannot unlock this thing. The manual instructs "you will need to unlock them using the unlock code provided in your Live 7 box."

I have scoured the box, the CD case, the manual... was there supposed to be some card in the box with this serial number?

Thanks!

I suppose there might be a serial at your ableton user account.

Unfortunately you will need to buy a separate license for EIC, to get the serial for unlocking, even thou the DVD comes with the boxed Live 7 (EIC 1 serial works for EIC 2 aswell). Customercare confirmed this when I asked about it.

The information stated here http://www.ableton.com/eic is a bit misleading also.. "The boxed versions of Ableton Live 7 and Ableton Suite include the Essential Instrument Collection 2, ready to play right out of the box."

But it is ready to play -- it's just that it only plays in demo mode until you pay for it.

Do you have EIC1 that came with Live 6?

If so:
I was told both here and by Ableton support that the serial number for EIC2 is the same as EIC1.

I haven't tried it yet, since I haven't actually installed Live 7 yet, but I assume it will work once I get around to it.

Misleading indeed. So, I paid 60 dollars for a manual and a CD to sit on a shelf. *sigh*

I knew I should have just bought the download.

I was gonna say 'buyer beware" but reading "includes the Essential Instrument Collection 2, ready to play right out of the box" ... I still wouldn't have picked up on the fact that it's an additional purchase and NOT included in my Live 7 boxed price.

Everything Ableton makes is "included" and "ready to play" even with the download version... if you run the DEMO.

(sour taste in mouth)

Um, no. You can't download EIC -- it's too big.

It looks to me like Operator, Sampler, Electric, Tension, Analog, Drum Machines & Session Drums are all there in demo form. I though EIC was there too... my bad.

But I am still disappointed with Ableton's phrasing of what's included. From the manual...

"After you have installed the EIC Live Packs, you will need to unlock them using the unlock code provided in your Live 7 box."

Of course there wouldn't be an unlock code provided in your Live 7 box, because you didn't buy EIC, you bought the Live 7 box.

EIC unlock

Post by boaz65 » Tue Feb 12, 2008 12:56 am

Hey guys and gals!
I'm new to this forum and have been trying to find an answer to my EIC problem. From what I'm reading so far, I think I got screwed...I originally had a version of Live Lite 6 which came with a M-Audio midi keyboard that i purchased. I upgraded to the Live 7 version online, ordered the boxed version because it clearly stated that EIC would be included in the boxed version and ready to play right out of the box. I have the box, no license, no serial number although all of the sets have been dragged & dropped into Live per instructions. From what I gather here tonight, I still will not be able to use EIC as promised? If thats the case what was the advantage of buying the boxed version rather than the straight download version? I'm VERY pissed!

When I ordered the boxed version of Live, the serial number appeared on my account page. In fact, I was able to download and use everything but EIC immediately; it was only until the box arrived that I had to wait in order to be able to use EIC.

What happens when you go to www.ableton.com and click "Manage my account"?

Man, I can totally relate to this frustration. I am NOT happy about it either, but that is the way it is. I have been told a few times now... well technically they are being honest, it IS playable out of the box... just in "demo" mode. For me, this is unacceptable - I feel like I bought a 60 dollar manual, when the .pdf would have been fine for me. Oh well. Live and learn.

And yes, I have gone to the manage my account area, and the serial number is not there.

Maybe this is just because we are upgraders? Perhaps if you buy the "suite" outright at 599 or whatever then it actually does include the EIC "licence."

My first disappointing upgrade with Ableton.

Can I ask... when you ordered your boxed version, was it an upgrade or not?

Yes it was.

In order to order it as an upgrade, I first had to register the previous version. After I ordered the upgrade, the (different) serial number for the new version appeared on the account page.
