Mad Latency Problem
Hi..I uninstalled Live7 last nite after countless attempts to rectify this...Then installed the beta 7.02 version with no better results..
I have used Live since version 5 and 7 has been absolutely useless...MacBook Pro 2.1 ghz..Presonus Firepod..M-Audio Axiom 61 keys.....
I will open a simple session comprised of Zebra2 and RMX..Both coming in at 14% CPU with a 256 buffer....
After about 10-20 minutes the latency increases to the point of not being able to trigger via the axiom anywere near acceptable....
So I attempted with Addictive drums and Z2....Same deal.. I have no reason to believe it has anything to do with anything other than Live...It Does Not happen in Logic Pro8..Nor did it happen with Live6...
I use Live for half of my work so this is a real problem for two reasons
1.I need it to work and it doesn't,so it can't be used.
2.I love Live but if you can't make use of a product then the answer is obvious....It gets deleted and also no longer praised at the music store nor recommended...
I may go back to Live6..But I just spent $180 on a product that doesn't work...
Has no one else this problem??? Hoping for some kind of advice. I have tried everything I can think of with no other results... JON
OOPs also forgot to mention I am using OS 10.4.11,,and an intel..

Hi..Thanks for the replies..I sat with it again for a couple hours...
It seems that when I go thru patches on one of the software synths or romplers..It occurs..But at any time it likes..Not immediately at all...
After the third time ( I closed then opened Live again each time) I tried to adjust the buffer up to 512 and the latency disappeared that had accumulated. Otherwise as I mentioned I would have to quit then relaunch Live to get back to no latency
I played with that, changing patches like mad,but finally just said..How many hours am I going to spend trying to get this thing sorted?? Those are hours away from making music..So it is still a work in progress at present..
When it was happening in 7.01 the buffer was 512..So I have no great confidence that this time it was the remedy..or rather the cure...It would seem that if all is well with a lower buffer size then there should be even less reason for this to happen...AT 256 I experienced no oddities in the playing of Zebra2 which can be rather taxing in regards to cpu...
Oh well...Still hopeful there will be a solution. But I'm not really interested in spending hours looking for it...I have no problem using Logic 8...Which would mean I would miss Live but I have grown quite weary of late with most DAWs..Most are released before they are ready and the end user is the beta-pig...Logic 8.00 Was no better and LP8.01 actually works better when it wants to, or so it seems..
I first got into Live via Live 4 lite version that came with an ozonic..After playing with it for a bit..I went for the upgrade to 5 which had just came out..Been loving it ever since..Till now that is....
Again thanks for your replies, much appreciated....JON

No proper MIDI can come out of a computer... It is because of the OS (win&mac), they are not good at real time processing... Nobody told us about it, because Software dealers wants money.
If I knew I should have bought a MPC500 instead of Live.
Try to use Live with an external midi clock (hardware), it's the only way to have a good midi sync.

Hi robopp...Thanks for your reply..I am refering to something that occurs that happens at different times...It can occur 20 sec.s after I open Live or 10-20 minutes..When first launched all is well..Triggering is as it should be...But a 1/2 second delay starts to happen,as I mentioned, at anytime after that..I can't find any reason for it..I have attempted all I know...This does not happen when I use Logic Pro8..I understand what you are refering to..But this is much more extreme...Thanks again...JON
Midi bandwidth is only 3125 bytes/s and it has always been serial (like one note after another, so no realtime anyway), most modern computers should well be able to handle this as long as you don't rely on USB/FW Midi devices too much and even then it should not be that much of a problem with proper software implementation. Unfortunately Live 7 seems to be far away from proper software implementation of Midi at the time being.robopop13 wrote:No proper MIDI can come out of a computer... Hi..I'm not here to discuss midi bandwidth or anything of the like..I HAVE a Problem which has nothing to do with that...
I will spell it out again..When I first launch Live7...I can trigger from my M-Audio Axiom keyboard with NO noticeable latency..Savvy ???
After a time however...And the time can vary from 1 minute to 10-20 minutes....I have a latency that is a 1/2 second,or round about...This makes the application useless...
So then...Does anyone else have this problem??? Or any ideas as to a solution..
Also Please try and respond to the question...If you can not keep your mind on the question or try to recreate the problem yourself...Don't respond about other gibberish....I'm seeking a solution..Not interested in opinions about midi bandwidth...Nor midi sync...
This has nothing to do with my MPC2500..Nor midi bandwidth..It has to do with an issue that seems to only be occuring to myself and one other person here on the forums..At least in the "Bugs" section...
Don't mis-understand me I am gratefull for any help..But the two above posts have nothing to do with the question..If you guys want to debate that stuff start a thread about it and debate all year long....Sorry if that seems to come accross harsh but I'm not interested in anything else but some ideas about how to arrive at a solution...And once more this behaviour does not happen in Logic Pro8...
I love Live but this is making it impossible for me to use... Thanx....JON
I needed to edit this for a bit of clarification as to my present state of mind..
Please try and understand my degree of frustration here...I have also not heard back from Ableton yet in regards to this..I only sent a note to support last nite so hopefully I will hear back from them and it will come down to a simple solution that a simpleton as myself has in some way overlooked..

Hi.Sorry to hear that..I just deleted everything to do with the beta version..Then re-installed,from the disk version 7.00...All was well for about a half an hour and then....I increased the buffer size from 256 to 512..For a while that worked and then.....So I went to the extreme..1024....And that worked for hardly no time....
I have officially had it..If Ableton can be of help fine if not...Screw it...I'll either go back to Live6 (not likely)...But for sure I am deleting Live7 from my system...Had enough...
I certainly will not any longer reccomend Live to anyone...But maybe (hopefully this will be fixed....) However judging by the fact we seem to be a minority I doubt it will even be viewed as an occurence..I'm disappointed and pissed...I hope you find the answer to your calamity..I have attempted everything and with no success what so ever...
Sorry if this post isn't that inspired at present but I am totally wiped out by hours of fruitless attempts..JON

Hi..It's already a done deal/ poof gone..I was happy with 6..So will mostlikely go back there...But it just is what it is..If the issue doesn't occu that much then there is no help..Others don't seem to be plagued by this or it would be all over the forums...I can feel how I want..I have had a long enough history with Live and enough money out of pocket to not feel I am in anyway out of line..Just totally frustrated and fed up... JON
I'm having a similar problem through my fast track pro interface - I get latency everytime I use it now. It's just a matter of time everytime I plug in, with guitar or mic. Sometimes I get latency right away, like after only 1 minute, and sometimes it's more like 20 minutes also. But not only do I get latency, the signal just craps right out on me, get all fizzed out, almost like a digitizer effect, which just destroys my guitar playing.
Anyone know what's going on here? This is with Live6, on a G4 Mac.
