ABLETON LIVE CHALLENGE: part 2

Post by hoffman2k » Tue Aug 17, 2004 7:28 pm

After many users dropping out and some complaints, we adjusted the rules.

This is open to all Live users.

Ok, here's round 2 :o

The rules:

- You are restricted to the samples provided. Resampling is not allowed.

- Only Live's included intruments and effects are allowed. No 3rd party vst/au

- If you reverse a sample in Live, include it with the als file in a 'zipped' package.

-Track length limit is set to 7 minutes. Please go 16/44,1khz , so that people (is such exists these days?) with soundcards that doesnt support 24/96 or 32/192 can also listen to the tracks.

-Last chance to send us your arrangement is 15 september 2004.

-Your als file has to be named "yourforumusername_trackname_liveversionnumber.als". Example: painseeker_blowmebritney_4.als Meaning: painseeker made the track, the
track is called "blow me britney" and it was made in version 4. Simple, ain't it? :o

Each 'contender' provides one loop or singleshot sample (2mb max). You can mail the samples together with your "i want to join mail" to [email protected]
NO COPYRIGHTED SAMPLES/LOOPS

The deadline for entering is sunday, 6 PM central european time, 22 august. Once we have crossed the "enter deadline", all the samples will be put online. A link will be provided to everyone by mail.

It was pointed out that not everybody would be able to run the als-file due to cpu limits. The final arrangements will be available for download as single file by each user, and a "multi als-package".

I think that about rounds it up. No need to make anymore rules imho :o
If something comes up, we'll take it from there.
Entry's may also be sent after the deadline. All there is to gain is experience.

HAVE FUN

Hope to hear from you soon :o)

Regards,

Painseeker

There was one thing I had a question on - do you think that imported MIDI files should be allowed?

i think that you should specify - NO COPYRIGHTED SAMPLES/LOOPS in the rules.

This was the reason that the Take1 didnt allow loops, and i'd hate to make a kick ass track only to know that it'd cost me 2,000 quid to release it because of one of the sounds used in the process.

I added it. We also considerd it when assembling the rules.
But there where no commercial intentions. So anything could have gone. I think most of us are in it for the learning experience. If this goes well we can always up the ante a bit.

not necessarily - personally I'm after new inspiration, quite inspired by the idea but I'd like to think if I come up with something usable I can use it.

okay well if anyone is going to submit copyrighted samples , then please at least add "COPYRIGHT" in the sample name so we know.

i personally release just about every track i make, so i like to know exactly what i'm working with.

My mail and sample are in.

BTW, the file is 4.5 megs.

Ps, this revised version of the contest is going to include loops correct?

Then you must release a ton of records, or make very few tracks

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't reversing a sample a form of resampling?? Just looking for a little consistency!

Amberience, using the reverse the original file is rendered backwards.

Very true. But it creates a new file and is thus re-sampling. Just because there are no effects going on doesn't make it any different to rendering an entire track of audio.
