I've had problems with my Intel Quad, but putting the Duo processor back in and it works like a charm.
Thanks,

it makes me wondering that an 8 core MacPro only scores 4%-6% better than an 2,4 ghz quad. Are you sure that Live make use of all 8 cores?

i don't think it does, but running 32 instances of NI massive gave me about 30%cpu use just now.

i haven't been able to max it yet, but then again i also haven't installed reaktor yet...

Here are my results running three different version of Live on the same machine. All choked like a dog until about bar 12 when Live finally caught up to itself. An even though Live 7.0.2b5 was running the same CPU there were much!!! much!! more drops outs in the audio. These random audio drop outs are driving me nuts... never had these issues in 5.2.2. I'm also running 5.2.2 on my machine still and I'm not saying its CPU usage is any better but in regards the the audio buffering either solid or completely dead and no in-between or random drop outs.

Tarekith I'm also curious why you are getting such better performance on a very similarly spec'd machine. You thinking Leopard? Maybe the Motu drivers? Something in your OS's system prefs? What could be causing this? Maybe its cause I only have the Core Duo's?

Edit:
Here is something a little bit interesting I just discovered. I tried the test in all three versions again using my Fireface 800 as sound card output. I thought this might improve the CPU usage for some reason but actually added 1-2% across the board. Live 6.10 still had the best performance and the least audio drops/glitches with 7.0.2b5 being the worst with audio drops/glitches. I love Live... but so badly want this glitchy performance + audio drops to be giving some BIG attention.

No idea why I'm getting different results, just ran it again and got the same thing???? Maybe it's down to the audio drivers more than we realize?
