Deleted my preferences.cfg file and in major trouble

Post by pdxhood » Mon Feb 11, 2008 6:20 am

So my story goes like this. I own a copy of ableton lite tascam edition, version 6.0.6(included with Tascam's Fireone, which I purchased recently). While trying to activte my VST plugins I accidentally changed the library path and was unable to find the original again. I'm not sure if it was my program version or my intel-based macbook, but no one I talked to was able to decipher what my original library path was. One of my friends recommended I delete the preferences.cfg file. I did, and now I'm in ten different kinds of hell. When I load a project, only pieces of my original audio are there, mixed in with audio I've never heard before and which didn't even stop playing when I shut Live down. Is ANYTHING salvageable at this point or do I need to delete Ableton and reinstall? Just the fact this happened scares me to use it period.

Thanks for any help.

Joe

Can it be that hard to search for the library stuff? search for "instrument rack" or "consolidated" or whatever other Ableton terms..

As far as deleting preferences, I doubt any serious problems could be caused by that. People do it all the time and it's a common suggestion as a first step fix-all

Longjohns, I was thinking the same thing but I'm starting to suspect my "tascam edition" works differently than the other programs, and no one I can find seems to use the program. Also, the default path everyone else's intelmac seems to use user/library/application support/ableton/library, but that second library file doesn't exist on my computer. I even tried upgrading to lite 6.0.10 as recommended by tech support, but "tascam edition" doesn't allow for that either. My ableton terms are popping up in different places, some in an ableton project info folder, some in a username/documents folder. Going to try some new ideas and check back here later.

All good now, guess I must have set my library folder in my documents, guess I must have done it on accident. Think I'm fixed for now...
