check out pandora.
its not a band its a internet radio site.
but you can just type in a band name and it will play music the relates to the band you type in.
i use it when i want to hear something new ... i've let it DJ parties at my home before too

Not in the last year but check out Mandalay. A while back some assclown put one of their albums out on the net and changed the band name to Portishead and it spread like a virus as a new Portishead release. Their sound is close enough that you would actaully believe it..although their sound isn't as depressing.

Lots of really good mellow downtempo type stuff.
I especially like the Orange Crush, Trills, and Frequent C releases.
