I have several Plug-Ins I want to use with Live4. Most of them are available in both versions (AU and VST). Some are hosted on the PowerCore card (Virus).
Any suggestions what should be used in Live?
SHOULD YOU USE THE AU OR THE VST PLUG-IN?
Yesterday I realized that the Sony Inflator somehow works in Mono as a VST but fine as an AU. PowerCore PlugIns seem to need a lot of processor power - although they should be processed on the card! How is this possible? I also read the MachFive is not yet working. Wondering if my other Plugs will work (have not tried yet).

Hi gfisch,
Unfortunately it is not easy to answer if you should use the AU or VST version. In general Audio Unit plug-ins have advantages, but many developers have simply more experience with VST plug-ins and therefore the VST versions are better tested. I would suggest using the AU version and switch back to the VST version when you experience problems.
I will check about the Sony Inflator.
We are working with MOTU to resolve the problems with the Mach 5. It looks like MOTU will release a bug fix for the Mach 5 pretty soon that make it run in Live 4. The Mach 5 has also problems in other hosts.
The Powercore uses a lot of cpu power for the communication to the dsp card. But we found that you can add as many effects as you like without a change in the need for dsp power.
Atmosphere and Stylus work fine here. We haven't tested Wired and Morphology. But they are based on the Intakt Engine from Native Instruments, which works fine in Live.

good reply / thank you. I can live with that.
And - I can use the MachFive Library in Simpler and impulse in the meantime.
greetings and keep up the good work

Here's an odd thing.
In Live 4, Spektral Delay works (on a Send/Return channel) completely fine if the AU version is used.
But if I use the VST version, Spektral Delay only works in Mono mode...it only picks up the left channel.
I tried this on many channels with many types of loops, and it was always the same. AU worked perfectly, VST didn't.
Odd, eh?
Based on the post above, I suppose AU is simply a better format?
Either way, at least the option is there.

I would not say it like this. The problem is a bug in the spectral delay that was simply not obvious in other sequencers that don't listen to the input configuration.
Audio Units are a big miss with Input and Output configuration at the moment.
