It's brilliant for included content. But I never got into serious programming. I actually find Max alot easier and logical.

Somebody at NAMM (I believe a member of this board) was doing a demonstration at the Ableton booth on how to use Live for DJing and part of the demo he did the most killer live glitching I have ever heard. I was told the effect was done with Reaktor. So can you pull off some great live glitch effects with it out of the box or did he do some deep programming?

you can grab out of the box a groovebox called Gobox and start mangling like hell.
Do not hesitate. Reaktor 5 is a bottomless ocean of sound and the SOUND quality is superb.

Or the real question is, should he buy reaktor 5 now, or wait until reaktor 6 comes out. At least that's the question I'm asking.

NI's also known for playing very close to the vest as far as major version upgrades go. While I haven't heard anything about R6 (and I would have by now if it were scheduled for release), it also wouldn't surprise me too much if a new version was out by year's end. Right now, I'd lean towards no R6, but I'm also going to be watching news from the AES convention in May just in case.

what's the use of "waiting" for R6 when you can enjoy a great ride with R5 and eventually one day upgrade to R6.

Don't hold your breath for R6, just get it now. Even if it is a bit shaky you will still find some good uses for it.

We're talking about an NI product here. If they released 6 today then it might be stable by early 2009.

Reaktor on my PB was real flaky.
But on my macbookpro i use kontakt and massive nearly every day, and neither has crashed on me yet. 1 really annoying bug in massive (though i think it's abletons fault, not massive).

I can't remember the last time a release version of an NI product crashed on my machine.

What's your Massive problem, jeskola?

if you're at all inclined, get it, reaktor's one of the few musical things i actually find mindblowing (there's so much in there, and so much that can be customized to your needs with minimal "programming).

I'd say get it i use reaktor with live everyday and have so for a few years now. It's my main sound design and Efx building tool, tho as another forum member pointed out it's very deep and time consuming but very worth it. 8)
