midi notes recording issues

Post by peeddrroo » Fri Feb 15, 2008 6:14 pm

i experience 3 different problems:
- sometimes when looping a clip, just after recording, the first note will be missed on first pass
- some notes are held when i record long clips
- when i play notes that overlap the end/beginning of a clip (eg i play a note at 3.4.4 on a 4 bars clip), the note will be 2 bars long

Are these notes from VSTs or audio units?

If a synthesizer doesn't receive a Note ON message, it wont play. And Live only sends NOTE ON messages when the playbar moves past the start of a note... this doesn't happen if you jump to the middle of a note.

drag your missed MIDI note so that it doesn't start outside your loop. Or, hit quantize.

Don't let notes overlap. You can't hit a piano key while holding down the same piano key... some Synthesizers will respond to this sort of error by giving you a "stuck note".

Don't assume that when Live loops, that it'll know to HOLD all the notes you think it should as it jumps from LOOP END to LOOP Start. Try to loop somewhere silent

all this is using ableton's instruments.

concerning the bugs i have while looping, i didn't have them with live6, doing the exact same thing. so i guess it's a bug.

i'm on 702 (but had that with 701).

I always have thought #1 was caused by the switch from compensation to not..

it happens on audio clips too I think - a little disruption across the first loop point.
