Yeah, mate,

support is responding all the time though...

I am 90 percent sure I can write them an email right now, and get a response back at the latest wed or thursday...

meanwhile, call them, just jump on the phone, they will walk you through a clean install, you probably have delete some of the reg key files...

As far as I can tell, there's absolutely nothing in the registry dealing with Ableton besides the defining of extensions.

What I would do is uninstall Live. Delete the program folder as well. Then, you'll want to delete the following folders (choose show hidden files and folders in Windows' view menu):

Documents and Settings/*your user account*/Application Data/Ableton
and
Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/Ableton.

Also, delete any folders in My Documents. Reboot and reinstall.

doesn't surprise me.
This isn't the first thread I've noticed about malfunction when installing live 7.
I followed their instructions to the T by the way, with regard backing up libraries etc, and it asked me to unlock online twice when installing which was very unusual, and then caused all my PACE protected software to lock me out. Not only that, trying to open a set with a PACE instrument in it crashes live.

but alot of you have heard this before and might be sick of hearing it, I'm just adding it to the thread as I think it's relevant.

when it happened, it was like the straw that broke the camels back. Except I went totally numb instead of irate. The stability standards are so low in my mind right now, I really don't think it's possible for live to piss me off again.

nah, I've never gelled with that logic. Makes no sense to me. at all.
We're talking about a premium product here for premium cash, I really don't give a damn about tracktion or cubase, I haven't sent them any money or invested time with them.

We are talking about software to make music on a machine designed for office use, number crunching, word processing. Computers are not dedicated musical instruments. In all reality, we are talking about software that has to interact with other software from tons of different companies.

Vst's and Au's, each with their own bugs and problems.

When you take into account all the variables, and also be a little fair, it is easy to see how well this program does compared to the others.

well j2j,
I do know what we are talking about
You think ableton have no responsibility to make sure their product does what it's supposed to ?

pah...whatever, your argument is almost as weak as the one that goes something like this:
well, if you buy something...and you don't know how to build it yourself, tough shit if it's not as advertised. learn to make your own DAW/Live Performance Sequencer or stfu.

ya, believe it or not, that's pretty common around here.

- try getting rid of the preferences.cfg and starting again
- possible VST problem, try temporarily renaming your VST folder and starting again

that is not at all what I am saying mate. of course they are responsible for making the software work.

and frankly it works better than any DAW I have ever used. if you can not see that, you need to try more DAWs...
