crackling inputs in os x

i have recently purchased an ibook. i absolutely love it for doing my audio and music (coming from a pc, you mac users know why). but i have had one problem that is really bugging me. i use a tascam us-428 as my audio interface, and in live when i monitor the inputs, after about 10 mins i start to hear an annoying crackle following each attack of a sound (i.e. i say something in the mic, then a sec later hear a small crackle.) i tried increasing the latency, but it didnt seem to work. does anyone have a solution? here are my specs:

g3 700 mhz ibook
384 mb ram
os x.2 jaguar
tascam us-428
live 1.52

i remember hearing something about that...someone had a fix somewhere in this forum. i'm liqoured, so i have no intention of searching it out for you, but you should be able to (n) find it if you just do a search for tascam. rest assured...a fix exists.
