i bought the AKG K271 a few months ago after having the HD25sp for about 8 years.
The sound is WAY more straight/clean/clear on the AKGs. They also completely cover the ear instead of sitting on it and it's so much more comfortable. I find it also blocks out more external noise which in turn means i don't have to have the volume as loud.
The 271's are BIG, there's no denying that one. They are big to wear and big to store. They are VERY comfortable, if a little bit sweaty. They are built like a tank and all parts are user replaceable. The headphone cable clips into the ear unit with a mini xlr cable, the plastic ear covers are very sturdy material and the stitching is really strong.
They also have a killer hidden function in the form of a little switch that is released when you take the headphones off your head, which cuts the sound - super if you are recording vocals and don't want any leakage.
Even after long sessions i don't find them tiring.
All in all i am very pleased with these. I got a great price too (€115) from http://www.thomann.de

i've had mine for a week.. i dig em.
i got them mainly for tracking vocals and acoustic bass and they work great.
great isolation and great sound quality still some leakage if you crank em up but i didnt hear any leakage at a reasonable tracking volume... the akg's seem very durable too.
worked very well for tracking drums too.. i did a remote recording 1 drummer on traps and then a percussionist did overdubs but i had to crank the headphones up kinda loud. i dont think leakage was an issue cause drummers a freaken loud lol but i havn't reviewed the tracks at home yet.
never the less i think i'm going to pick up a pair of vic firth or extreme isolation so i dont have to let drummers use my akg's i should get better iso out of the more drumming oriented cans but at a loss of sound quality (the drummers get em all sweaty too yuck)
edit...
i used them for placing mic's too.. it helped alot for finding the sweet spots

Hey, I got the K271 Studio too, and I'm really impressed with it.
Also I wouldn't want to ruin the discussion, but it's something related.
I got the Audiophile 2496 sound card, and Roland RD-300SX Digital Piano (With MIDI of course), when I'm playing any VSTs, through ableton live or anything else, the sound is not as loud (So to say... you know) as when I use the phones with the Digital Piano's sounds...
And the volume faders in the control panel of that sound card are on max (0db????? They start from -something)
If anyone has any clue I would REALLY appreciate it, it's something that's REALLY bugging me (And I will emphasis the really on both cases as much as I can).
Thanks in advance.
P.S: Does Ableton Live support velocities only of ranges from 20 to 120? Cause when I press the C and V buttons (Which higher and lower the velocity when I play on my PC Keyboard) it gets to those ranges and not lower and not higher. I thought velocity should be 1-127.
Any idea?
Thanks again!

i recently changed my akg k240 to the k271s as i think they´re a bit more defined and i just like them more.
The only problem though is...im listening to house and bass rich music and i find that i get a weird feeling that pressures is building up!
is it anything any of you´ve ever experienced?...i dont know if i´ll get used to it or go and shoot myself...
