Live keeps exporting silence sort it out damn it!!!!!

Post by rude_NHS » Wed Feb 20, 2008 3:47 pm

i'm very angry. exporting a finished track is a constant disapointment of opening the rendered wav to find a track of silence.

curse you.

fix it please.

This gives really, absolutely no information.

It is not the proper way to report a bug.

Somebody is just suppose to guess your version? You system config? And how is somebody going to guess to reproduce?

Honestly this just sounds silly. Give a full and complete explanation as to what is going on.

If you give a full explanation, Ableton, as well as the other users, like me, might be able to help.

track is finished, go file, export audio, choose desitnation and file format, hit ok. wait for it to export, find track, open in i-tunes, silence.

Hi,

I think the "go file" step is misleading: what do you mean?

If you've composed the track in the Arranger window, you've got to first select the time range (i.e the full song in your case) you want to render, first. Also, only the Master track will get rendered, so, make sure everything routes to the Master track.

everything routes to the master track by default and anyway i always check the routing when rendering.

when i render a track i tend to select all before i go "file" then "export audio"

anymore ideas?

Now I got the "go file" thanks.

- Are you looking at the Arrange window while going to the file menu, or to the Session view?
- What settings do you choose in the render dialog? Are you sure iTunes is able to read it? (do you see a waveform if you import the rendered track in Live?)

i have tried exporting in both arrange window and session window, i ahve also tried importing the track back into live and there is no waveform.

i render as wav and have never considered that i-tunes does not play wavs as i thought it did, maybe this isnt the case. i would have thought i-tunes when importing wavs would convert them to ACC as normal. i don't know.

DEVELOPMENT!

when i imported the track of silence into logic there was audio, as if the track had rendered fine.

Hi,

Okay, iTunes is able to play wav files, but maybe not every sample rate/bit rate. I'm not sure, it also depends on the soundcard it uses.

But, for the track that plays in Logic, it should show a waveform right? And then, the same track imported in Live should also play and show a waveform? If that same track still doesn't play in iTunes, it means iTunes just can't ply that format. Try rendering in 44100 and 16 bits, just to make sure it's only a format problem.

Just to corroborate what has been said above, I have never been able to play wav files that are 32-bit, seems like you need a special codec or something.

When you export the track, be careful to not leave a "solo" button on. Yes it's stupid but that happened to me and I was going like wtf? for 3 hours.

But you said that the track works fine in another DAW so it's probably a problem of bitrate.

This is not a bug! You have to select the time frame in the arrangement window... it's all in the manual...

As cids said, I'm guessing you've got something screwed up on the Arrangement. Have you tried deleting the Arrangement and re-doing it?

I'm having the same trouble: exporting my mix and ending up with a six minute track of silence. Also, when Live finishes exporting it freezes my M-Audio interface until I close Live completely at which point it starts working again. I've tried it in both Session and Arrangement view following the directions in the manual but to not avail. Bloody annoying it is... Any ideas?

Problem exporting to wav's

Post by harryem1 » Sat Dec 27, 2008 2:51 am

I'm having the same problem, but not consistently. With some Live sets, the process has worked. (I'll go back and see if there's anything common about either the ones that worked /didn't.) But in all cases:

Exporting from the arrangement view --exporting the Master track. I've used a high bit width / rate, but in this most recent case, I dropped it to 16 bit / 22050 and it still didn't work.

I'd been using an app called Music Man to convert to mp3, but when it doesn't work I also try playing the wav file with iTunes. In this most recent case, instead of silence, it sounds like I'm getting only some of the tracks, and at a slower speed in the wav file playback.

I'm really getting bent our of shape behing this and would appreciate any help.

Meantime, i'll continue to investigage and report back if I find anytrhing.

Harry

I've never had any problems rendering to audio before until today. It would just produce a track containing silence. I tried everything that I normally suggest to others: double-checking arrangement view and ensuring that the arrange view loop brace matches the track I wanted to render. But no luck.

Until I did something simple: I saved the live set! Then render and hey presto - lovely audio in my wav file. So, if all else fails, save first!

Thanks, 80! Your answer helped me find what the problem was, at least with this set. When getting ready to export, I noticed the start time didn't match what I had actually set --this time around. I had re-set the start time a couple of times in my last session. So what got it to export correctly was highlighting all the time before this current start time and Edit>Cut Time. I then save the set, just to make sure (following your advice) and it worked!
