Synth automation in arrangement

Hi. I posted this a few days ago but im posting it again because no one has replied and im sure someone must have some idea. Does this always happen or is my setup doing something strange? someone must have the answer!!

Im having problems recording CC messages into my arragement in ableton 6. The messages go fine into the session view and create pretty envelopes. The problem occurs when i try record clips from the session into the arrangement and send CC messages from the systh. The sequencer just runs the envelope for that CC message or does nothing if there isnt one. any ideas on how i can make it use the send messages. Thanks

If you are able to record CC data in the Session view but not the arrangement view, you are backwards from everyone else.

Also, are you trying to send CC messages "to" the synth?

thanks for the reply. I can record the messages from the synth into the seesion, eg filter cutoff or resonance. I want to play the notes from the clip and and recieve the messages and record them from the synth and send them back to the synth. I take it this means it is not possible.

that's a lot of stuff in one sentence, and about half way through I get lost as to what "them" are and which direction "back" is, etc...

You can record notes from the keyboard to a MIDI clip in Live.
You can record MIDI CC data from your keybaord to Arrangement view.
You can copy MIDI CC data from arrangement to Session view
You can draw MIDI CC data in Session view (Hint: hit the "E" button at the bottom to open up the envelopes window in CLip View)
Session view MIDI CC Envelopes can control your synthesizer.
Session view MIDI notes can control your synthesizer.

Sorry if im explaining it confusingly. Here goes

I can record midi note messages from my keyboard into clips in the session
I can record midi CC messages from my synth in clips in the session
I can record midi note messages from my keyboard into the arrangement
I can record midi CC messages from my synth into the arrangement.

What I want to be able to do is play and record the notes from the clips into the arrangement while at the same time recording the CC messages from the synth.

Does this make sense?

Do you have the other link?

It's easier. you are in session view. you have some clips in session cells. it's ok?, so you only need pressing the record button in the toolbox (top center), then play, tweak your knobs and "voila" as you press stop and go to the arrangement view, you'll see your automations and improvisations recorded.

There must be something wrong with my setup then because, as i said in my orignal post, all that happens is the envelope from the clip copys and not the messages sent from the synth.

if you have an envelope pre-drawed in your clip, and youre recording into arrangement it should record your manual envelope, and not the drawed one.

my question is: why do you have a pre-determined envelope in the session view, if youre gonna over ride it and record the overridden one to the arrangement anyways?

you might want to press "back to arrangement" when you hit playback again, otherwise it will play the envelope in your session view when you hit playback if the clip is set to play.

If there is an envelope, it plays the envelope.
If the isnt an envelope it records nothing.

I can explain it any other way

one question: is it conected midi out from the synth to any midi input of the computer? because if it's not, maybe this is the answer: your handtweak affects the synth and it works as you are performing, since computer sends notes to synth, and synth knobs affect the sound but as there is no midi communication from sinth to live, so, it records nothing.
