Topdeq have some good chairs too. Not sure if they are just european based though.
I bought one about 5 years ago and it's been very comfortable for 8hrs+ and built superbly.

If i was still sitting i'd get it. I'm setup for standing now so hambone's chair looks interesting. Too bad it doesn't have a back support.

i went for the topdeq range because it was mid way between the aeron (very expensive) and the ikea type chairs (too cheap).
The topdeq chairs are designed with long term use in mind and you can get all the stats about how long each one is good for per day.
They have some very ergonomic chairs.

made me remember something I've wanted to try for a long time: to lower the
table top on my Jerker desk, and replace my office chair with a proper recliner
chair.

Last autumn, I was writing an essay for university, and I had a cold and
a broken hand. What I did was put the mouse and computer keyboard on a
smallish particle board, which rested on the arm supports on an old recliner. I
had a pillow to support my neck, and the computer monitors at their "regular
level". It was so fricking comfortable! When I sit on a regular office chair, I'm
always aware of my posture, having to change my position all the time. But
sitting in that recliner, I was absolutely oblivious to the fact that I was sitting at
all, and ever since, I've wanted to try to somehow get all my equipment down
to that level. It's a bit tricky with a firmly mounted table top, though, as the
arm supports move slightly upwards when you recline the back of the chair.
I have to figure out a way to do this...

That recliner idea is pretty cool but I just don't see how it could be made functional unless you are just using a mouse and a keyboard.

Its gonna be tricky especially if you have a buncha equipment that you have to find a way to reach.

I'm needing to get a new chair as well. I have one of those cheap executive office chairs with the cheap vinyl. Very uncomfy during the summer. It doesn't breath at all and your sweat just ends up ruing the chair even further.

The price on that Gaiam is definitely around what I would be willing to spend on a new chair. Although i question just how functional and comfortable it is, especially during long hours. I think I would prefer something with a little more back support. Purely based on just seeing photos of the chair, the ball part just seems like a novelty in case you want to do squats while working.

The other ball chair with the larger back support that sways side to side seems like a pretty cool idea. The Aeron chairs also look pretty cool and I'm sure the ergonomics make it worth sitting on. But the prices on these chairs are just ridiculous. I might be willing to spend $500 and upwards on a chair but only if I knew for a fact that it would be comfy to sit on for hours on end, its beneficial for my back, and I'd also like to know that they are durable and will last a liftetime (or at least have a lifetime replacement warranty).
