MIDI Controller & Live performance!

Post by Decalc » Tue Feb 26, 2008 5:09 am

I have a home studio to make my own sounds.. and i'm using Ableton Live as main recording and everything else.

Me and my friend are mixing rock music with eletronic music. Here is our setup:
-Behringer BCR2000
-Alesis Multimix 16 USB2.0
-M-audio Axiom 49
-And there are mics amps and stuff for the rock part that don't need to be listed

We are having two serious problems. We want to make live performances with our projects.. and we don't want just to play them on decks. We want to use our ableton projects and mix them together so we can work with some loops live with the BRC2000 make some effects.. mix the drums etc.
As you can see there are two big problems there.

How can i join multiple projects together and mix them?

How can i setup the BCR2000 to control the effects of all the clips of each track?

I hope someone can help me. If you can't just explain to me how Ableton artists do it. Like Daft Punk i saw that they use two BCR2000 to control Live.

Thanks

Are you and your friend going to have two computer that need to be synced? If that were the case, one will be slaved to the other. The synced computer can still trigger clips and stuff, just not start/stop. You could also feed in the other guys audio into a new track via spdif or adat and have the master computer go analog out. Might get some latency though. Or just have the two computers go to an analog mixer.

One knob can trigger multiple clips, right? You cold also probably trigger the other Live computer with the same midi controller, if one computer was going usb in, you could also do a midi out from that computer. The other computer would need a midi in.

The video didn't help me that much but nice video tho.
I do the same thing but with NN-TX from Reason and Recycle.

About mixing projects. After burning my head with that the best solution is having two pc's but sync them and stuff it's too hard and they use to say it's unstable.
So the best way i found is to learn to play my songs and minimize the sounds that came from computer. Now it's me making bass loop and stuff live with the Axiom 49 and just keep them going while i apply the effects and my friend playing bass and guitar. And i also control the clips from ableton with my new Novation Remote Zero mixing beats and stuff. It toke me 10 hours do reconfigure all my setup and midi controllers. But now we can play our songs without stoping just using Ableton and Reason rewired.

Thanks for helping :)
